    What are your favourite strings??

Damn I should probably switch then. I use GHS boomers and the D and high E strings are breaking at the bridge at least once a week.

    Mouse interference

Also are you using a CRT monitor by any chance?

    Mouse interference

Yes, but only when the mouse is moving, and only on my single coil guitar. Normally it isnt a problem though, since I dont move the mouse while actually recording.

essential effects - when to apply?

I think all of those effects arent necessarily better before or after going into the amp, it just creates a different sound. The only exception I would say is the reverb, I'd only put that on afterwards, or use the amp's. I personally use an EQ both before the amp, and another one in the...

    Strat with 2 bridge pickups

no, The position of the pickup has just as much to do with the tone as the pickup itself.

    low watt amps???

I remember reading about something in a guitar magazine the 'Nano Head' I think its 1/2 watts all tube.

    Smooth jazz sound

Are jazz picks the ones shaped like equilateral triangles? If Wes Montgomery uses his thumb rather than a pick that would explain a lot.

    Smooth jazz sound

I was just wondering how much the heaviness of strings and/or brand of strings has to do with getting this type of sound. I know most jazz players use heavier strings. Right now the sound I'm getting is too 'snappy', not necessarily too bright, but not the mellow sound I'm going for. Most of...

single to dual coil: is it possible?

If you mean humbuckers then yes it's possible. Dimarzio and Seymour Duncan both make humbuckers that fit in single coil slots.

    Physically Heavy Mex Strat

I've always heard that the heavier a guitar is the more sustain it has, but I haven't played enough different guitars to notice this myself.

    Anyone have minihumbuckers?

Have you put in a series/parallel switch? I've got the hot rails and use series for distortion and parallel for clean (brighter and somewhat lower output)

    10 watts all tube ?

I'm also thinking of getting a small tube amp for practice and recording purposes, something like the Blues junior. I was wondering with these types of amps, how often do you usually have to replace a tube, and how does the sound differ after its been on for awhile as opposed to when you just...

    Recording Guitar

I usually use 3 mics on the amp when recording, one on axis, another off axis, and a third about a foot away from the amp. Then I just blend them together with different volume levels and panning until I get the sound I want. Beats direct line-in recording virtually every time.

    What picking technique is this?

Hmm, I dont think thats what I mean. I'm simply talking about picking (using a pick though, not fingerstyle picking) by moving the thumb and index finger, instead of using the wrist or elbow. My picking style is more similar to Paul Gilberts and its starting to cause pain in my wrist so I...

    What picking technique is this?

I've mostly seen it done by shredders..where the arm & wrist stay mostly still and they just use their fingers to move the pick. Not sweep picking, but rather when they are just picking individual notes.

    series/parallel switch

I was looking through a radio shack catalog and they have mini toggle switches that require a 1/4" mounting hole. the diameter of the hole where the tone pot was is about 1/4" also (a tad bigger but not much) I dont think the switches are on/on/on though, some of them say center-off but I dont...

    series/parallel switch

Hmm. If I go with the on-on-on switch, what determines which coil is used in split mode. For instance if I split the bridge and neck and put them together, if the inside coil of the bridge is used, for it to still be noise cancelling the inside coil of the neck pickup will have to be on.

    series/parallel switch

Hey, what type of switch do I need to get that will fit where one of my tone knobs was (strat style guitar) that will allow me to toggle one of the humbuckers between series and parallel?

    What effect is this?

On La Vila Strangiato the lengths of the swells aren't always the same so I imagine he's just using the volume knob on the guitar (I've seen Yngwie do that) or using a volume pedal. It seems like it would be easier with the pedal though.

    pickup swap???

I've got 59's in the neck and bridge but in the middle I put a vintage rails. That way I can still get strat sounds from the notch and middle positions. Otherwise if you dont mind the hum from the single coils, theres probably no reason to replace the middle pickup at all.
