Large Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser for Grand Piano Recording

Ah yes - the very article which made me buy the pair of Rode NT-55s with changeable heads initially... Worked well for me so far with occasional access to my old university Steinway model D grand in a pretty decent acoustic chamber library room.... Based on the article, Sennheiser MKH 8020...

Large Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser for Grand Piano Recording

Amazing what forums like this can teach me... I'll definitely check out OM1s... Not bad price for achieving near-total flat response... Otherwise, I'll continue to save up for step up with my AI and microphones i.e. Prism Titan or RME Fireface 802 / UC / UFX... Microphone wise - Sennheiser MKH...

Large Diaphragm Cardioid Condenser for Grand Piano Recording

OM1 quite cheap for the almost totally flat frequency response graph between 20-20,000 Hz... Wonder how comparable it is against my Rode NT-55 in omni pair...

New Category in User forums by brand

I started using iPad Air for classical recording and is quite amazing what it can do... With Focusrite Scarlett 18i6, Presonus Capture app, and occasionally use Focusrite Octopre Mk II for additional mic channels - then wifi transfer files directly onto Studio One Pro before mixdown. So...

    i love my tablet

For pure audio recording (which is what I mostly do making live classical concert recordings) I use Presonus Capture app and then wifi transfer the files onto Studio One Pro for mixdown on my laptop. iPad recording made me ditch Zoom R24 altogether and I now use Focusrite Scarlett 18i6 to make...

Best setup for recording on the iPad

I'm happy with recording onto iPad Air 1 128Gb with Presonus Capture app, Focusrite Scarlett 18i6 plus Focusrite Octopre Mk II to provide additional microphone channels. Setting up audio interface was the biggest pain, but once done I've ditched my Zoom R24 entirely. I make mostly live classical...

Pair of SDC's around £500 for classical recording?

You can't go wrong with NT-55 matched pair - I used them for my recent chamber choir & ensemble concert together with pair of AKG C214...

    Focal Solo or Adam A7x?

Thanks all so far - more confusing as now I also came across a pair of Tannoy Reveal 802 with 42 Hz - 43 kHz range for around £420 a pair. How do they do so cheap - and are they any good at all as your main monitor???

    Focal Solo or Adam A7x?

Hi all I do plenty of classical music concert recordings (mainly chamber music, chamber choir, piano solo and some chamber orchestra with choir) and I tried to listen to my sample tracks through a number of monitors (of varying sizes) at my local GuitarGuitar store... For a while I was leaning...

Hi all - anyone with experience of using DPA 4091 Hi SPL mics for recording grand piano acoustically? Any better than Rode NT-55s or AKG 451s?

Which USB audio interface with 4 XLR inputs??

Hi - I'm looking to get a USB interface primarily to record myself on piano with/without another solo instrument or a group of soloists using 4 XLR inputs. Around £200-250 max, and hoping that it would work perfectly with either my Acer netbook or my HP laptop (AMD Athlon x2 with Windows Vista)...

Can't recording Sound Forge Pro 10 via Zoom R24...

Hi all - I'm trying to connect Zoom R24 to Sound Forge Pro 10 to record anything... Updated the audio driver to version 1.5 and connected my 2 Rode NT-55 mics (with phantom power on). Nothing registered... What processes do I need to follow to rectify the issue? Many thanks.

    Recording a Choir?

When I record unaccompanied chamber choir I use a matched pair of AKG C-214 cardioid in ORTF position and placed about 1-1.5m behind the conductor (set high up and angled slightly down pointing towards the middle of the choir). And also using matched pair of SE4400a in omni to capture acoustic...

    Orchestral Recording

Agree re. John's post - ORTF with omni worked well for me the last time I recorded a chamber orchestra plus choir in the middle at St Paul's Church in Covent Garden... Used a matched pair of AKG C214 ORTF and a matched pair of SE4400a in omni mode + Focusrite Octopre MKII preamp and Zoom R24.

Mics for recording choir & orchestra...

Will be full capacity approx. 150 - but the acoustic will still be boomy enough due to high ceiling.

Mics for recording choir & orchestra...

A typical anglican parish church but with rather boomy acoustic and I'd expect the choir to be in the middle but with 4 different levels of height. Very high ceiling.

Mics for recording choir & orchestra...

I used C214s in XY and spaced omni using my matched pair of SE Electronics SE4400a. Worked wonders. But - I'm wondering if 4 mics will be enough record Bach's St Matthew Passion (for double choir and double orchestra)... I'm thinking of digging out my two AKG Perception 420 mics and possibly...

Mics for recording choir & orchestra...

I was recording a chamber choir & orchestra the other day using: 2 x Rode NT55 matched pair (omni - 17cm spaced, placed behind the conductor) 2 x AKG C214 matched pair (spaced cardioid - 1.5m spaced, placed in front of either side of the ensemble) 1 x Focusrite Octopre MkII 1 x Zoom R24 The...
