    Atlantic

i live in canada. at the one shop in my city of 2 million or so that carries marshall mics, an mxl603 is 200$ after tax. that's for one. On 8thstreet, where i ended up getting them, they're 160 american for two with two free XLR cables (260 canadian vs 400$ minus the cables). i told the guys at...

    Help recording drums

ok, i have a problem recording my drums that i need help with. to begin, here's the chain: XY-ed AKG C1000s (dont start.. the mxl603s are in the mail, but i anticipate some of, if not all of the same problems) into a DMP3, out (balanced) into a patchbay (balanced again...) into a Delta1010LT's...

    A soundproofing alternative please...

gaurdian, i'm considering doing the same at my place... my drums can be heard five houses down. what can you tell me about your 'sound deadening boards?' are they rockwall or sheetrock or whatever it is they keep talking about in the studio building forum? in other words, what exactly do i ask...

    newbie alert

what amp is it? how are you micing it? what's the rest of the signal chain? the sm57 is a good mic. that's pretty much a given. there's got to be something wrong somewhere else.

Mission: Impossible ... Can it be done?

no no, he already has the mics he listed. no harm in trying it, just be sure to reverse the phase of the one pointed at the back. since your amp is a fender it's probably got an open back, which isnt all that great for metal tones, i believe. As such, micing the back might help you out. try...

    Soundcraft Spirit M12

ok, i guess my other thread was a little too precocious to get any replies, so here's a more direct question. :P what do you think of this board? how does it compare to others in the price range? how are the pres vs mackie's? Any relevant experience you'd like to share? etc etc.

Who scored the blown Beyer M500 off ebay yesterday?

hah. the same thing happened to me once, but it was a figure 8 mic. i cant remember the model number, it was a beyer ribbon, though. i couldnt wait to send it to sank and then be able to use it for strings and stereo micing and different things.. but, alas, someone beat me in the last minute.

    soundcraft question

hey. i seem to have grown out of my Mackie CR1604 (not vlz) rather quickly... i have a DMP3 in addition to it and i still find myself wanting more preamps. I originally was going to get another standalone pre, but then the thought crossed my mind after seeing soundcraft touted highly here that i...

    the eternal debate rages on...

P.S. do you think i'll be able to get at least 200 US$ for the two C1000s on ebay? they're in near perfect condition. Also, do either have a pad?

    the eternal debate rages on...

I really cant decide between either a pair of Oktava MK012s or a pair of MXL603S'. ARG what to do, what to do? I could afford either one, but my mic cabinent is in fairly sparse condition, and there are other needs to consider. Thus far, this is what i have: 4 x AKG C418s (toms) 1 x AKG D112...

need advice on budget sound treatment

actually the floors are carpet, but yeah, i figured it was doing something like that. the drums are seriously deafening. i put up a carpet against the back wall from the bottom of the windows to the floor spanning a little further on either side than the angles bordering the backmost segment of...

What mic would you use on who and why?

uh wierd.. i cant see my post. here it is again, and i'll edit it out later if it turns out to be a double post.. i dont know if this sort of thread has been done before, but i thought it'd be interesting and might bring up some interesting points about different mics to learn about. So...

need advice on budget sound treatment

i just realized i forgot to state a budget.. well, just know that whatever you recommend has to be reasonable for a student with a part time job to pull off... i'm remarkably resourceful, but i'd like to spend as little as possible as i've still got a bunch of mics, pres, etc, on my shopping...
