    sorry for asking

I apologize pre-scripto. I currently have a sony F-V220(I hear the graves spinnin and mass scoff's). The vocals I record(only vocals, no instruments!)vary from punk to rap, and I'm looking for mic under $50 that can attain digital records w/ a limited amount of background fuzz and whatnot. I...

    8 inputs means 16 inputs?

Funny story: whenever I hook my tape recorded up to my computer, I always forget to put the rca on the tape to output, so I end up wondering why it's not working. But the funny thing is that it actually works, albeit very poorly, but it actually records out of an input.

How Long Do You Spend On Your Mixes ?

I DJ so it's live mixing. But when I do tracks I attempt to get everything perfectly recorded, see how they fit mixed straight from that, and then make minute adjustments and add effects if necessary.

    special sample question

phyl: yes, possibly a performance. I'm more gearing my question of just individual notes and manipulating them(or not)to my liking. I would assume I'd need to ask permission from someone if it was a modern rendition and the person who did the music(actually played it on the record)was alive.

    special sample question

I already checked that thread and a few others for my answer, but couldn't find it. The thing is, I mean dead as in Mozart and Beethovan...long dead.

    special sample question

I'm wondering if you can legally use a sample without paying royalties if the label is out of business, and/or if the artist is dead. Thanks in advance.

Cursed with a crappy monitoring setup, mixes come out low end heavy!

Your headphones are assumingly better than your monitors and more equal to your car's stereo--use them to review after you change stuff in a track as well as on your monitors.

Monitor takes too much time to turn on!!

Get a different monitor, try trading it in.

    Mix w/ Headphones??

I may be biased thought...seeing that I DJ(so I always mix through headphones). BUT, depending on what style other stuff I was to record, monitor's would be smartest--especially if the band or whatever is planning on playing live shows.

    best distortion mic?

Use a really bad mic through bad speakers, record that with a better mic...isn't that the point of distortion, essentially?

    Mix w/ Headphones??

Try each, you'll see that on the headphones it sounds better/clearer. But on the monitors it sound less appealing, but true to what everyone else is gonna hear(assuming they don't use headphones also, which would be a plus).
