What makes a good amp for low tunings?

My other guitar player just bought a new Schecter 7 string, but I haven't had a chance to take it for a spin yet. As for Nevermore, the last time I saw them was in a club here in Calgary with maybe 25 people in it. Not surprisingly I don't think they were too into it and we definitely didn't...

What makes a good amp for low tunings?

Yeah for sure. I'm currently playing a terrible metal guitar: a Fender Strat. It is modded with a Duncan humbucker in the bridge position which helps a bit, but it still isn't cut out for what I am playing now. A new guitar is also on my shopping list at the moment. The current front runner...

What makes a good amp for low tunings?

Wow, great responses guys. Cheers. As for the person asking about my budget, it is still somewhat to be determined, but I am probably stuck to <$1000. Ha, Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth once told me I look like Andy Sneap. Personally, I don't see the resemblence, but I wasn't about to argue...

Do you know the note names on the fretboard?

I guess I'm ok at knowing the notes, but only when in standard tuning which my band never really uses. To make things managable me and the other guitar player just stick to the standard note names regardless of what note it actually is.

    New Death Metal Mix!

Vocals are too loud for me.

What makes a good amp for low tunings?

I've got a bass cabinet as part of my current rig to try to bolster the sound of the busted ass amp I am playing now and I gotta tell ya, it just ain't workin' for me.

What makes a good amp for low tunings?

Yeah I guess I should have been more specific for this crowd. Sorry. I am talking about speakers and the whole kit when I say "amp". Style-wise, you are right to guess metal. In simple terms think Gothenburg-ish style or just check our MySpace if you would like a more specific idea of our sound.

Tuning your guitar 1 octave down.

I run my Strat in B most of the time on "heavy bottom, light top" type strings without any real problems. I actually prefer heavier strings when tuned that low, but it is my only electric at the moment and these strings let me bring it back up to E when I'm not is a metal mood.

What makes a good amp for low tunings?

Hi folks. While I have been playing forever, I must admit that my knowledge of the technical side of guitar and amp electronics is somewhat lacking. I now find myself in the market for a new amp and I am wondering if there are any technical attributes that are better for lower tunings (I'm...

    Metal...with a weird instrument. :)

Been listening to Moonsorrow have you? If not you might want to check them out, specifically the song Karhunkynsi off the record Verisakeet. They are Finnish, not Swedish, but they us the same instrument as well as a whole whack of other Scandinavian folk instruments and influences.

    A little punk for you

Drums are Fruity Loops. Ha, I'd use better if I had it, but I'm a starving grad student for now and even a proper set of headphones are out of the budget. Hell, new strings are a luxury at the moment. Besides, my cousin (who is also the drummer in my real band - check out Dead Grey on...

    A little punk for you

Oh, and the guitars are DI'ed out of a Boss GT-6. I was running the pedal's 8x12 cabinet emulator.

    A little punk for you

You (and some of the others) hit a number of things right on the head. The guitars are DI'ed, but if you knew the condition of the only amp I had available you would be begging me to DI them. A new amp is #1 on my "to buy" list. :) I'm totally with you on the repetitive nature of the drums...

Apparently my Soundclick is all good now so this post isn't needed after all. Enjoy!

    A little punk for you

Hey everyone. It has been a long while since I recorded anything and although I have been a member here for quite a while, I have never posted a track before. Anyway, I figured it was about time I did. My main band plays metal, but I started out playing in punk bands back in high school and I...

    Andy McKee - Amazing

HI folks. Lots of you may already be familiar with Andy McKee, but I figured I would post it up for those who don't know him. I only heard him for the first time a couple of days ago when my bands other guitar player turned me onto him. If you don't know him you have to check this out. He is...

New Heavy Metal Instrumental Song, Over 9 Minutes

Yeah, I figured DFH. That program rules, I just wish it wasn't such a resource pig. You are right that there are other bands that have what I would call abrupt changes. And the abruptness isn't exactly what I am criticizing. It is the fact that every transition in the song is the same with...

    <<Acoustic song comments/suggestion>>

It reminds me a lot of some stuff from the local scene here a few years ago. I like it.

    New black metal mix

I will. I like the track and agree with pretty much all of the suggestions that other have made. I might add that the mellow bit in the middle of the track would benefit from some acoustic guitar; it could work for the rhythm gits or even an acoustic solo. I only wish you didn't list bands...

New Heavy Metal Instrumental Song, Over 9 Minutes

The 40 minute long song would be (I'm guessing) Edge of Sanity. The album/song is called Crimson. Green Carnation has since outdone them with a 60 minute long track/album called Light of Day, Day of Darkness. This song has kinda the same vibe going on. As far as criticism goes, I would say...
