    Parametric EQ build

Okay, here's the main board: I'm hoping to get it finished tomorrow. The only problem is that the front panel might need another coat of paint. I've given it four so far and it's still a bit streaky :/ The whole thing will be enclosed so there's no chance of touching that live terminal. I've...

    Parametric EQ build

Okay, after a very long mission to get the chassis drilled, it's been done! So I've started constructing the unit. I've finished the power supply and have started soldering the main board. Hopefully it'll be finished in the next few days.

PTP vs PCB in a digital world

While it may be true that PCBs can be built to an outstanding level (something I do not doubt at all), they are usually not in guitar amps. I've had both PCB and handwired valve amps and have had loose connections in the PCB ones but not the handwired. On the other hand, the most reliable amp...

PTP vs PCB in a digital world

Also, when building valve amps using high voltages, the PCB traces need to be very thick. It's easier to use wire.

PTP vs PCB in a digital world

As far as I know, the main advantage of PTP is that it's more reliable in guitar amps. When they get bashed about a lot, the PTP connections are less likely to break.

    Nice!

What exactly is drift? I've been considering syncing my MS16 to a MIDI sequencer programme with a MOTU Micro Express but I'm not sure if drift would be a problem.

Problem with play button on MS16

Thanks for the reply. That's exactly what it's doing. The problem is that I don't have a tentelometer. Is there anyway of roughly doing it without messing up the machine?

Problem with play button on MS16

Hi, I've been having a problem on my MS16 for the last couple of days. Occasionally (seemingly more so near the end of the tape) when I press play on the remote, it plays for a split second then just jumps back to stop and vice versa. Has anyone with an MS16 experienced this? If so, do you know...

    MS16 Pinch Rollers

The problem is, I'm in England so I don't really want to post my pinch roller to America. I seem to have now fixed the problem though. I spoke to Clive Kavan about it and he said it was probably due to too much back tension... and it was. The question is, should I still look for a new pinch...

    MS16 Pinch Rollers

Hi, I've been getting a bit too much wow and flutter on my Tascam MS16 and I think it needs a new pinch roller. Does anyone have one for sale or know where I can get hold of one? Thanks James

    Suggestions for a 1" 16 Track?

I have an MS16 and it's a great machine. Upgrading from a Fostex R8 was the best decision I've ever made for my studio. So far, I've had no problems with it (except that the relays needed replacing when I got it). I've had it set up by Clive Kavan (the master of tape machines in England) and it...

    Have Oktava discontinued the MK219??

It's difficult to find out anything about Oktavas. They seem like rather a mysterious company.

    Have Oktava discontinued the MK219??

That shop is their old shop though. They have a new shop site which all the products have been transferred to except the 219 :/

    Multitrack recorder

Analogue or digital? If digital, although I've not used one, I've heard the Korg D888 is very good. It certainly has good features, especially lots of inputs/outputs and physical controls.

    Have Oktava discontinued the MK219??

I was just looking on Oktava's online shop and I noticed that the MK-219 isn't there. Does anyone know if it's been discontinued? It would seem very strange if it had been as it's a great mic and as far as I know, fairly popular.

    Suggestions for miking bass

It was counter-intuitive and I didn't expect it to work. I set up the bass and amp in a different room and got the sound I wanted. I then just put the condenser on it and listened through the monitors expecting to get s bit of high end that might be useful in combination with something else but...
