    Otari Mx5050 B-2HD Calibration issue

Hi their. Recently I posted regarding my teac 80-8 calibration, a journey that was completed successfully. Now I'm onto my 2 track. I'm attempting to calibrate Record Equalization on the deck and following the manual, I'm running into an issue: The manual simply states "connect the audio...

    Important Tape Calibration Question

Well it could be a 60hz ground hum, now that you mention it. It's really only noticeable when the deck is in standby. And we also built the wooden stand with it on a slight slant, would that affect it? We built it so that it's basically level when a person is sitting down in front of them. I'd...

    Important Tape Calibration Question

The machine is sounding better. It is more consistent. I have noticed that the "low end" buzz from the machine seems to be a bit louder than before, but I assume that, that is because it is actually calibrated.

    Important Tape Calibration Question

So....What should I do. Because I'm trying to save for 1/4" MRL? Will that device be sufficient enough?

    Important Tape Calibration Question

I mean, I'm comfortable to use it, but if you mean if I am comfortable in understanding it, I am not. I would need to know how to plug it into the deck and what settings to turn it too. That's all. And to back track, I got the 18kHz tone EQ setting to work. The manual states that, as long as I...

    Important Tape Calibration Question

So, as of now, I have followed the manual and all of what has been told to me. So, to the best of my knowledge, the deck has been calibrated, excluding head alignment and azimuth.

    Important Tape Calibration Question

Well, to be honest, I don't think the mixer is an issue. It seems that all levels are matching up. The only section I'm having issues is the REC input FR EQ, running the 18kHz (according to the Teac manual) something they really kinda skimped on, by not putting HF and LF EQ adjust. I have been...

    Important Tape Calibration Question

Alright, well I went thru and biased the deck, it seems to have worked. But I'm going to walk you guys thru what I have done, to make sure I'm doing it correctly. To back track what I have done: 1. Calibrated Norm/Monitor Playback levels and EQ to all be set at 0vu. The Teac does not have a...

    Important Tape Calibration Question

DUDE. I'd shake your hand right now,:thumbs up: but this has been throwing me for a loop for the past day. I thought that their was a relevancy, but as long as it drops 3db that is all that matters. Alright, I'm going to give this a whirl now, I have my computer next to the deck, ready...

    Important Tape Calibration Question

Ohhk. So where the meter is, is irrelevant? Channel 1 could peak at +3db and Channel 2 could peak at -2db, but as long as I drop them 3db that is all that matters?

    Important Tape Calibration Question

Alright, then I have the deck calibrated to 0vu currently. I got confused by that concept of +6. I understand the -10db and +4db difference, my main concern is doing the BIASing right now. As I had posted before, I'm not getting needle drop when turned completely counter-clockwise.

    Important Tape Calibration Question

Well, by MOL what do you mean? So basically with the deck calibrated at -3vu, I would hit distortion above 0vu? With it calibrated to 0vu, I would hit distortion above 3vu?

    Important Tape Calibration Question

So I'm still at the same dead end. When I turn counter-clockwise, neither channels drop down to zero. In fact channel 2 cranks to +6db on the meter and never falls below the red.

    Important Tape Calibration Question

Beck, I'm confused on what you are saying? We are calibrating the deck for RMG 911 +6 tape. I think we understand, but to clarify: you mean that if I had 185 nWb/m, that's when I would calibrate so the VUs show -3db?

    Important Tape Calibration Question

And as a side note, I have been playing my CD test tones thru my mixer with all levels set to 0db and input gain at 30.

    Important Tape Calibration Question

Ok, So I have followed your directions and also stayed close to the teac 80 manual. The only difference that I came across was that during the MRL calibration the manual says set to -10db, but we calibrated to your -3db... Alright, now we got to the BIAS part, but I have run into a few snags...

    Important Tape Calibration Question

I'm calibrating for +6, at 250nwbm, IEC equalization. The MRL actually came today, most nicely packaged tape I've ever gotten.... I won't be starting anything until tomorrow though.

    Important Tape Calibration Question

Alright, I'll look into the 1/4" MRL. At this point I'm trying to cut the cost down as much as possible. Saving the $$ on the 1/2" tape was freaking huge. The MRL tape for the 1/2" 8 track is supposed to be in no later than Friday of this week. I plan on starting the calibration the day of or...

    Important Tape Calibration Question

And, for the sake of me looking around, what type do you guys recommend for an Otari MX5050 2 track 2-HD? Calibration tape that is.
