    Pick a stain

Michael - IMO none of the above:) I recommend either doing nothing and pine just dulls a bit and retains it's natural finish ........ or Lime Wash which I prefer. It finishes the timber but stops it from yellowing and will reflect light under your ceiling. cheers john

    Keep looking?

Earll - why not float a new concrete slab on the original?? It will save you 6" of ceiling height as well. ;) cheers john

    XLR Wiring

Larry - I'd use a consistent common colour code so if you have to fix it later you know what is what. Make sure you make the shield shorter than the other two so if there is a strain on it the shield takes the weight. (BTW that's probably what the extra tab is - a duplicate earth) cheers john

    lighting...

now Light - there's no room for lighting geeks in a control room ;) unless you know how to make coffee :D I agree with frederic - keep it simple - A couple or three variac transformers over you main lighting circuits can give you all you want - but it's expensive, like you said ;) cheers john

    helmholtz resonator location

sure - but in an 8 ft ceiling you can get 1 ft easily. cheers john

    helmholtz resonator location

In a room that small the main problem is in the low mids which are masking the actual bottom end. Take out the low-mid colouration and the lows will be fine as the existing walls are acting as low panel absorbers or the lows are going straightout of the room thru the walls. That's why the 705...

    helmholtz resonator location

yeah - why not?? Most people ignore the ceiling as a treatable surface yet in a small room it's possibly the only area you can get depth without loosing floor space. cheers john

Using mineral wool to deaden but keeping it covered well.

another alternative is plastic sheet - i.e. the stuff you use in gardens or as a vapour barrier. Yes it reflects the highs and the rest goes through and is absorbed but it keeps some high end in the room that stops it from sounding totally dead. It definitely stops the shower of fibres. cheers john

    helmholtz resonator location

Yes you can put a resonator in the ceiling - here's a pic of one Putting rigid insulation totally will create a really dead dead room with no high freq response. Slots like in the pic will give you some high end diffusion which is what you will need. cheers john

    I think I'm in love...

yeah - I can understand that ;) I suppose it's based around the vision of the guy who built it really - it sortta displays the thinking behind it - like a super highrise studio...where's the pool? .........maybe someone with toooo..... much money :D:D I dunno. yet stick some real people in...
