    Multi-Track Recorder... which to buy?

Yes the AW16G has only 2 XLR inputs. The pres are not the best although I doubt the pres on any of these type machines are great.

    Multi-Track Recorder... which to buy?

Just cause I have one I'm not going to try to shove one down your throat but I can assure you the AW16G can handle bands quite well and is very portable and rugged. The dijonstock page has a section for members music if you'd like a listen. One more thing, it looks like Musicians Friend is...

    Multi-Track Recorder... which to buy?

Well since you want to be recording bands you're not going to want the units that only record up to 2 tracks at a time. I have a Yamaha AW16G which will record 8 and I like it just fine. There's a few others out there. More opinions are sure to follow.

Adding final touches to home studio

I would just hold onto the money for the time being. What you 'need' will make itself apparent soon enough.

    My first mic choices

The AW16G does have pre-amps but they are not it's best feature, especially with dynamic mics. Also the AW16G only gives you 2 channels of phantom power.

    My first mic choices

Sounds like a good start although you might want to consider a Shure SM57 for the cab because it can also double as a vocal mic. You'll probably need a preamp with the Yamaha. Visit here to unlock the mysteries of the AW16G http://forum.dijonstock.com

    Yamaha Aw16G or KorgDk1600?

PeeVee, when you open up a song, any scenes that you might've saved with it are not automatically restored. Once you bring a song up, click on the scene button and recall the scene you want.

    Tomorrow Never Knows vocal effect

According to the Mark Lewisohn 'Beatles Recording Sessions' book Lennon's vocals on the 3rd(?) verse, 87 seconds into the song was fed through a leslie speaker. Before that point the vocals was just treated with ADT.

    Quick question for AW16G user

The forums at aw16g.com are pretty sluggish these days. Alot of the same people can be seen at http://forum.dijonstock.com/

    Oh my God!

Well your reputation as a good citizen preceeds you Richie. I'm guessing it's not luck that they want to give you the mics but something you've somewhat earned. I agree, get them appraised, let the family know what we're talking about, and make some sort of donation to a favorite charity of...

Fostex vs. Yamaha vs. Korg digi recorders

Everyone's personal needs are unique to themselves. What you need to do is find the differences between the candidates and decide what features are most important to you.

    A good mic for begginers?

The SM57 on the dynamic side and the B1 on the condenser side. It's hard to go wrong with either one. Whatever one you get first, get the other one 2nd. And yes, you need phantom power with the B1. Good luck. Have fun with it.
