    AKG cheap, any good????

I just got a display case (but never used) AKG perception 150 sdc for $40. I know they are discontinuing this mic, but is it any good? What is it good at capturing? Did I get a good deal, or should I take it back?

    Indie deal

I really like your songs, and the demo you already have is awesome. But, if the label gave you a budget, just go to a studio and sit back and focus on your performance, let some one else worry about tracking and mixing. It would be a better use of time to really work on your songs from the...

    How to set it up...

In the same class as the behringer mixer, alesis makes a firewire mixer that would work for capturing tracks.

What should I do for drums?

Ditto on Gband. You can transfer tracks back and forth from gband to logic pretty easily. Just create a project in the correct tempo and sequence some drums. Then load them in logic and record what you want over it.

    Couple of dumb questions....

OH to answer the sequence question, I always turn on my rack gear first (pre with mic already plugged in) and let phantom power warm up. Then turn on my firewire interface, and last the computer and monitors. This ensures that the mac always "sees" the firewire device and by the time all that...

    Couple of dumb questions....

There is a really cool power conditioner pannel that actually rectifies the wavelength potential of voltage for up to 10 circuits. It puts 60 volts posotive potential wavelength on the "hot" wire and 60 volts of negative potential on the nuetral wire. This means always perfectly balanced...

    noisy bass

Yeah, the electricity is a huge factor. The building is old, and was once used as a cabinet shop. The voltage is 3 phase with a high leg of 277, and there is no nuetral. But everyone else who uses an unbalanced instrument does not have this problem. I will tell him to take it apart and check...

    drums w/out interface

I read an article that Travis Barker recorded a song like that once, well just tracked each drum seperately. He did the kick only, then added the snare only on the next pass, and so on. They were trying to get a drum machine feel. But realistically you are loosing your performance feeling...

Onyx two mic-pre SERIOUS RECORDING need some input

Yes you can still use the pan settings from the mixer if you record the output in stereo. But instead of a mixer, why not look at an interface that has more than 2 inputs? Then you dont loose the ability to change the tracks (pan eq effects volume) independently after they are tracked. For...

    noisy bass

Not really a recording issue here, but my bass player at church just bought a beautiful new Fender Jazz bass. Our electrical system is a nightmare, no grounds and alot of stage lights on a dimmer mixer. He seems to get alot of horrible static noise standing on stage. He can kind of move...
