Yea, I'm new to all of this so bare with me.
I don't get it .. Let's say I buy a Behringer EURORACK UB1202 or a UB505 and I got the free ware I.E. Reaper or cool pro how do I hook it up to my computer?

You'd have to run it into the line-in on your sound card, which is usually bad, unless you have a very good sound card.. If you get a mixer, get something with a firewire or usb interface. If you only need to track 2 channels at once, a 2 channel usb mixer is inexpensive and works fine:

If you want more ins and outs, find a firewire interface that meets your needs.

would be a good place to start looking at whats available.

In the same class as the behringer mixer, alesis makes a firewire mixer that would work for capturing tracks.

Ordered the home recording for musicians this morning. I want to be able to record my band for a demo. Eventually I would like to be able to record other bands or maybe my mom and dad's church group for them, stuff like that.

I want to thank you all for the input, every little bit helps.
