    TEAC-144 portastudio repair project

Not sure what "bolt" exactly you refering to, but since you FIXED it - it's all GOOD! :drunk::D:drunk: In short, the "magnet wheel" MUST spin , varying the magnetic field near the sensor (see attached close up photo of the "machanism" :) ). If it does not spin - auto-stop gets activated. Basics...

    TEAC-144 portastudio repair project

Yeah , fun, sort of ... :drunk: I would not kill 144 just for that, though... it's just happen I had "leftovers" around. Also, rc-71 is a such primitive (technically speaking) device, that all you need is a box, few push buttons, pair of LEDs and resistors... and just follow the diagram. Well...

    TEAC-144 portastudio repair project

Dan, remove the bottom cover. It's easy. Then check two small bets 'associated' with tape counter mechanism. See the attached picture, pointed GREEN. These two belts (BOTH of them!!!!) MUST be nice and tight (so they dont slip). They can be broken, completely melted or just stretched and...

    Lateset tape + tape scam

Well, it should not irritate you, beacause there is no reason to be irritated. If an item was described honesty you will receive your item exactly as described. Therefore there'll be no reason for you to return the item in the first place. A honest seller needs no cover in a form of projection...

    Lateset tape + tape scam

I have no problems with people selling stuff which they have no clue about. And if they have no clue, and say so in the description - there is nothing wrong with that. There's Nothing wrong with telling the truth ;) AND!!!!! If somebody has no clue about a piece of equipment, I catually would...

    Lateset tape + tape scam

Check Bill's other items too ;) Looks like he drove his forklift (or more likely a front load tractor :D ) through debris of a local "museum" . He must love his "sell similar item"-button , that's why his descriptions are edited copy/paste style BS and that why tubes (or what not) can pop up...

yeah, these are pretty rare and usually not cheap. I've seen them being sold up to two hundred bucks  You can find one on eBay, but you'll have to keep looking and looking. You can set-up few searches with notification at eBay and when something pops up you'll get an eMail. That's what I do...

Roland space echo 150 or hold out for a 201?

The "regular" market price for a Roland RE tape "echo" machine (with or without spring) is somewhere between $400 and $800. You are welcome to mention this to the person who was going to give you RE-150 for next to nothing . After that you can hold out to avoid being haunted forever ;)

Reamping guitar to tape (or possibly drums)??

here are few more "characters" ;) .... You will not get "nasty tape saturation/compression" ... (regardlessly of what machine/tape and how you use), because there's no such thing. The "tape saturation" isn't something that can be "described" by the word "nasty"...not even close. That "effect"...

Maybe use some soft metal/heavy-foil-like (coffee can comes to mind heh heh ) , cut out, make box so it fits the relay under with "mounting flanges", you can wrap tape around the box to keep it...

Analyze This - Better Homes and Gardens (March, 2009) :)

huh, funny stuff, Guys :D. ************ I dig your logic :) Actually I thought about it in that "direction"... but it didn't calculate well in my mind as "probable scenario" in this case. hah hah ..good one :D btw 3, the machine is OTARI MX-55 , link: http://www.otari.com/support/vintage/mx55/index.html I am not 100% sure, but I believe that this model was introduced in 1987 (according to some web-found docs), and by that time Mr Martin was ...arhhhhh? hmmmmmmm - 70 year old? ;)
