    Zoom MRS-4 vs. Fostex MR-8

Carl, Just went into my studio, you can pan from center to dead right, or left in ten seconds flat. This can be done in real time. Also a correction, EQ is not parametric. You can choose one frequency in the treble end, choices are: 8K, 6K, 4K, 2K, 1K, 800, and 500 cycles. In the bass end...

    Zoom MRS-4 vs. Fostex MR-8

Hey Krakit, I have a MRS-4, and will be happy to answer any and all questions, I don't have the Fostex, so I won't pretend that it is better or worse. I printed this thread out, for convenience. On printed page: 1. MR-8 over MRS-4, everthing you mentioned is correct, but I think with...

Can you eat a large diaphram mic?

Thanks ron, and H2, So for mouth to grill, large diaphrams are out of the question? Even with my dynamic, I'm down -8db on the low end, large diaphram would probably mean even more rolloff, yes? Any thoughts on small diaphram condensers used in this manor, any gain in quality? Or should I...

    Gotta love reviews........

Yeah, I think user reviews are much more honest, no one is paying them to lie. If I want to get the truth about a certain piece of gear, I allways start by asking right here, most likely someone has used it, and will offer up an honest opinion GT

Can you eat a large diaphram mic?

My recording enviroment insists that I close mic vocals, I'm talking mouth to grill. Right now I use a dynamic mic. Could I use a large diaphram mic in this same manor, and would there be an improvement in sound, over a dynamic? GT

The coolest thing you ever picked up at a Garage sale?

Got a Grundig stereo tube FM, and shortwave in perfect working condition. Beautifull pianolike finish, $10.00. Also got a GoVac back pack vacuum cleaner, just like the kind real maids use, $10.00. It's the Monica Lewinsky of vacuum cleaners!! Where do you guys find all these great musical...

Recommend me a good mini hi-fi shelf unit.

I would look into Sony cheap mini stereos. They have em for less than $200.00, with built in 50, or 60 cd changers. As far as I know Sony is the only one with this much cd changer, in a cheap stereo. Also a nice way to store discs, saves clutter!! GT

I blame it all on Sluice...........

WOW!! That was excelent. Your neighbors must think you got a revival going at your house, but wonder where all the cars are parked. Great recording. Too cool!!

pants slip down under the radar

Ok, Good news. Headphones lied, scratch the 6k slider idea. Second listen on my Samson DA-80, 6k makes the sound too hard. I use these speakers, near field, on the floor facing directly up at me, at about 45 degree angle. Built in 5 band EQed, used to remove coloration, they seem to be...

pants slip down under the radar

Ok, Try this if you haven't allready, play your song back on Winnamp. Adjust the 6k slider up about 3 to 5db, this gives two possible major improvements, more bite to the snare, and more bite and volume to your voice. Doesn't seem to cause any harm, as recording has an overall soft tone. I'm...

pants slip down under the radar

Okay pcp, I'm going to try to give a really involved citique. I will put your song through all the riggers that I put my own songs through, OK? My first listen is through phones. Mix seems very smooth, as I listen, and watch Winnamp spectrum analyzer. I will try to listen to this song on...

Lt. Bob, Great jammy, the bass is relentless!! One question: How did you make your sax sound like a guitar? Nice to hear a really good live recording, hope throwing down those Shures didn't wear you out!! New band sounds really good, just keep an eye on your wallet! Great sound!! GT

    Cream cover

Lt., Thanks for takin the time. Yeah, my voice, this song was pretty high with little bits of falsetto thrown in. I found it very challanging, If I tried to sing any louder, it would start to sound dishonest, I hope you know what I mean. I've decided to try to think of my voice, as just...

freshears, Thanks for the listen, glad you liked it!! I think Jack is still around, probably my favorite bassist of all time. Sunshine of Your Love......hmmm. Piltdownman, Thanks, yeah it's hard to make canned drums sound real, I think the best you can do is just try to make them as...
