Probably not. Many (most?) cheap ribbon mics from Asia are flawed from the factory ... loose ribbons, sometimes flappin' in the wind. Ribbon mics are, almost by definition, high end gear. Remember, too, that ribbon mics are BIDIRECTIONAL, ie, they pick up as much from the backside as they do...

I wouldn't know where to start. Are you trying to sing the song? It sounds guttural, and very atonic. I'd suggest you find a coach, even for one session to get an idea of what you're doing wrong. And don't take offense ... not everyone can sing ... just watch the American Idol tryouts.

Looking for (another) multi-pattern condenser for recording vocal and acoustic guitar (together, singer/songwriter stuff). The graphs look pretty good. Anyone have any experience with the ST-59? Opinion?

It seems the other problem (reported by pbassbob in another thread) was an issue with the memory card. He reverted to v1.02, and had the same issue, so it wasn't the firmware. After doing a full format of the SD card he mixed and mastered without a problem. Looks like 1.11 is a keeper.

Yeah, I noticed that after I posted. GREAT! All's well that ends well! Maybe. I back up to my PC every session, and always do a full format when starting a new project.

I feel for ya Bob ... what a PITA when all one wants to do is record some music. Tascam published a list of compatible cards on the dp-24 downloads page ... others may work fine because they came out after the list was made (as mine did) but there's a reason they've tested and approved certain...

What is it you want to do? The DP-24 can connect via USB for file transfer ONLY. It can connect via MIDI to a DAW allowing control of the DP-24 from a DAW (not all functions) and vice versa. Download the manual and look it up. The functionality is limited as the DP-24 is not designed to be...

Just be aware that there are issues with the 1.02 release with creating a CD from a 24/48 recording, that was fixed in v1.10 but that version had some serious issues with saving track data and was replaced by v1.11 a few weeks later (which may or may not have an issue as reported by one user...

I've had no problems with the dp-24 and version 1.11. There's thread here about it, and one user reports a problem that I have not been able to reproduce, we're trying see if it might his memory card. The dp-24 is the best MTR I've ever owned.

Well ... I tried to make it happen, but not able to reproduce the problem. What memory card are you using? I'm wondering if there isn't a problem when it reads/writes to the card. I'm using a Transcend 32gb SDHC.

Where do you hear the problem in that SoundCloud clip? I don't hear it. I loaded up a song with seven tracks, one stereo keys, mixed and mastered, no problem. Curiouser and curiouser!

I'll try and load up a longer song and see what happens.
