How many of you used speakers to supliment your moniters?

I first mix on my Tannoys, then when I have what I think is a decent mix I'll go to a pair of Sony Headphones which tend to accentuate a lot of detail that my open listening environment doesn't pick up. From there I'll go to the car, then burn to mp3 and listen through a consumer soundcard...

    ADAT? Am I Mental?

I'm done buying gear, and any loss in quality between recording into the ADAT and having the signal sent via lightpipe straight to pc is minimal or non-existent to my ears. And what I'm doing from pc to ADAT IS a digital to digital transfer: I'm transfering data from the pc, through the...

    ADAT? Am I Mental?

I use mine primarily as a AD/DA converter to my soundcard. It also comes in handy for transferring comp'd tracks to and then from the ADAT in order to save disk space.

Anyone Here Not Using 'Proper' Monitors?

I use Tannoy Proto-J's, headphones, mp3 headphones, soundblaster, car stereo, and anything else I can get my hands on to listen to mixes. Restricting to a single pair of speakers isn't conducive to the best mix.

Yeah, I printed this off when I first joined here. Good stuff for sure.

    general mixing versus mastering questions

To complete what has already been said, you need to take your mixes, get them to sound as good as possible on your studio monitors, then take that mix and put it in as many other systems as you have access to and determine what the best compromises will be made to get your mix to sound great on...

    Remote Control for recording??

I bought a cheap 10ft extension cord for my computer keyboard. I take the keyboard with me into the room I use to record vocals. I can't see the monitor from where I record, but it's typically not a problem since I am only using one or two hot keys.

    Recording Help

The SM58 is a decent choice of mike. It works as a decent dynamic vocal mike and is identical to the SM57 when the ball cap windscreen is removed. You will be able to record relatively well with the gear you mentioned, however, you will not be able to split each track separately in your pc's...

Click track, What do you use.

I stopped using the hi-hat for a different reason: the frequency would bleed all over the place, particularly in headphones and mixer channels. I stick with a click in my drum machine which disappears completely when removed from the mix. I also stay away from 1/4 notes, preferring 1/2 notes...

Your favorite set up and why ( include amp, guitar, effects, etc.)

My Epi Basher into my digi rp-100 on a rectifier setting in my tube crate amp, with Crybaby wah for soloing. Works well for my kind of metal.

Mic for rock vocals: Condenser or Dynamic?

It's going to depend on the vocalist's tone. I prefer condensers on all my vocals, mainly because I have a whiny midrange and need more of a presence in the higher frequencies.

What mic for my $25,000+ system?

Mattel makes some pretty decent mics. Also look into Tyco.

    Question about slash

The worst of the genre was definately hair bands: the eye makeup, pants, and big hair. However, GnR was a hair band, but not classically influenced, so your association doesn't hold up to your statement. Tapping had its place. Iron Maiden used tapping as well, and while true, they donned...

Art tube mp as a DI box

Mine worked for a year before it started doing the same thing. Crackle and sometimes a complete cut out of the signal for no reason. It's sitting in my studio collecting dust. I decided to just use the preamps on my analog desk instead.
