R1 Roundffusor: Does it live up to it's enormous claims?

A 'dead room' is not evil. Sure you don't want a dead finished product, but that is what adding reverb in the mix is for. A few traps, inteligently placed, can tame a room. The problem is that a lot of people are more interested in making a pattern on the wall than what is needed...

What do you expect from your preamp?

My answer too. If you need your preamp to add something that your mic isn't doing are you using the right instrument/mic/positioning?

    Steel-framed absorbtion panels

Just built some new 3 inch thick absorbers and I tried something new (or at least new to me) and I was pleased with the result. I used metal studs instead of wood for the frame. I was impressed at how fast they went together, inexpensive, lightweight, crisp corners, and the finished product...

    Question about fiberglass...

IMHO the plastic will definitly harm the absorbtion. I would recommend a fabric covering that will do a good job of snagging particles, like a felt.

What is the easiest way to construct a 2'x4'x2" 703 panel???

you only need frames if you like crisp edges. Otherwise no frames is fine. You can make frames from 1x wood, but it is also relatively cheap and easy to make them out of steel studs and self-tapping screws. It just depends on what you are most comfortable working with.

Having lots and lots of trouble figuring out how to hang clouds.

As for the original question what you need is a plumb bob. And yes there is no problem with insulated wires against fiberglass insulation. you would have more cocern if the insulation was flush against anything that might get too hot as a result of the additional thermal insulation, like a...

    Treating a garage door

Remember there are two facets to 'treating' Isolation and absorbtion. Isolation is keeping your sound from getting out and neighborhood sound from getting in. That requires mass and getting the cracks sealed. So what you are doing to 'keep the spiders out' is actually a very good first step...

    Breathable Fabrics?

you should be able to breathe EASILY through it. I tend to be fond of craft felts. Smooth appearance, very open, lots of colors. Just be sure to flameproof it.

    Court, and microphones

Flat response is important in recording music. Unless you have singing attornies I wouldn't worry. What most computers have as a 'mic-in' port has poor quality, and it does not have phantom power. Either way you want to go into the line-in port after using some sort of a preamp. A small...

    Acoustic panel questions

Usually the same kind of mounting that you would use for a picture frame is OK for a bass trap. If you are using really thick/heavy wood for the frame then you might need heavy duty picture hanging hardware, but to be clear the only thing you need a frame for on panels is to give them a crisp...

    Horizontal, Vertical, thicker?

But the real question is... what needs improving in your current room? Presuming that it is bass buildup then doubling up four inches across two non-diagonal corners would be great. But it is a presumption that bass is the problem for your particular room. So why don't you just experiment?

    RE-20 Handheld?

You might just get a small desk stand and use the RE20.

    Wind noise

Definitly use dynamics (or small condensers very close to the source, like clip-on or headset mics). Any good quality foam windscreen should do an acceptable job.

    Group Buy Interest?

As things get closer do you plan on simplifying the choices? Right now there seems to be a lot of very similar LDC mics. I would be interested if any of the SDC mics had extra capsules for omni.

    Door isolation problems

The problem might not be the seals around the door. The problem might be the door hardware. what kind of hardware is on these doors? A typical door lockset is essentially a two and a half inch hole. That will let out a lot of sound. As for the door seal you might try having more than one...

ON/OFF switch, and a few other questions?

Mics with switches are intended for PA systems on podiums and the like. Usaully if the mic has a switch it also has been designed for spoken word, with less low and high frequency response.

Can I use this to record Vocals?

It will get you the sound of a moderately good dynamic mic on a moderately good soundcard. For its intended purpose of recording podcasts it will be fine. I would not suggest it as a first mic for somebody getting into the hobby mostly because it is NOT a gateway. If instead you were to get a...

    Acoustic panel questions

The 6 to 8 pound stuff will do slightly better in bass absorbtion but it is more expensive (in other words the stuff in the cubic foot which is not fiberglass is air, which is free. So which would absorb more bass...two four inch thick absorbers of four pcf fiberglass or one four inch thick...

DIY enclosure for PC tower lined with 703 fire hazard?

Probably well before the 703 gets hot enough to ignite your CPU will fry. In general building an isolation box for a PC is not the best strategy. Better strategies are: 1. Use long cables to move the system unit out of the room entirely. 2. Use low noise cooling fans and chip coolers...

    What do I need??

you generally want your control room oriented along the long rather than short axis. You are definitly thinking too rectilinear and symmetrical. Try this, a smaller control room off center with a larger iso room to one side perhaps for drums and a smaller one to the other for vocals and a...
