Well, I figure I would be using this for anything up to around 150 people give or take (assuming larger venues probably have their own system?). At the moment, its mostly going to be used for rehearsals, but I would like something to be useful for small to medium gigs down the line as well.
Hey, I wasn't sure where to post this, or even if this is the right website being that PA's tend to be more live oriented, not as much for recording, but any suggestions on a PA to buy? Obviously money is an issue, and I'd like to keep it around 5-700 dollars, but let me know if this price point...
Yeah, I definitely made huge leaps and bounds when I started recording myself. I found immediately that my playing was sloppy (especially dynamically) and recording myself has done wonders to improve my ear for timing and tone as well.
Finding quality musicians is a thing easier said than...
Ok here's one:
So I've been playing guitar for ten years. In the last two or three especially, I've made it my duty to improve my musicianship, playing ability, songwriting, singing, etc by any means necessary. For the last (woefully unemployed) nine or so months, I've played my instrument for...
Best way to expand your range is to think of getting up high as 'floating' up there. Be gentle about it. A lot of people try to strain their full (chest) voice to reach high notes which sounds like screaming and can damage vocal cords something terrible. Try to feel the notes as you sing them...
It had a 3-prong before but the grounding prong (the round prong that goes in the lower hole?) was loose so I bought a new one. I have a relatively new amp, so I don't think its an age issue, but I will have a tech check it out. Thanks!
Alright, dumb question here , but I have nowhere else to turn. My amp is not properly grounded. I bought a new plug for it about a month or two ago (it has the third prong ground on it) and as far as I can tell there are no other issues with my rig. But every time I am singing into my SM58 its...
I may have mentioned what I wanted on my other post. I was originally going to do vocals and an electric guitar together, but they were saying to isolate the signals to make for a cleaner mix. So I guess at the moment I'm just trying to capture vocals that will fit in well with a mix of 2-3...
So how do all you guys manage to get a good capture (obviously not a hard and fast rule because tis different for every song/voice/sound/etc)? Say I'm trying to just get a warm vocal tone, close up sounding (little reverb, but not much) and my voice is kind of chesty and lowish (awesome...
To answer the question.... No, you can't sing now. however, you do show potential to be able to sing (and sing well) eventually. The main problem is of course pitchiness - you are flat almost the entire time. But also, something nobody's said yet, is that your singing through your throat (that's...
Yeah I was figuring that the preamp colored things a lot but I guess that was a noob assumption. I do want to make it clear that I'm not just trying to throw money at this until I sound good haha I'm really trying to get some good info and I feel like I have. Obviously, better equipment gives a...
That's what I'm trying to do Typhoid, I was just seeing if it was a possibility that I was setting up for failure with my current rig. Its sounding like I can get pretty quality recordings (not necessarily top notch but good) with what I have but I will probably look into a decent preamp. If...
Cool guys I appreciate the help. I figured that it was going to be that every part of the signal chain contributed to the specific sound. I guess part two of the question would be, if you had a few hundred to invest in a bit better equipment (namely to get good warm vocal tones) would you go for...
Ok, I realize this is a stupid question (I'm primarily a guitar player and know that the guitar and amp make a HUGE difference, but the thing is that a great player could probably make a squier and practice amp sound pretty good still). I want to know about this idea and its relation to mics...
Right on thanks, I will be out of the bathroom from now on haha.
I'm using PT9 by the way. I guess my problem is that when I add reverb to a track, I usually click on the the section that I want to add it to (not the whole track, just the waveform rectangle on the edit window) and add reverb...
Yeah I've tried singing close up but it gets fuzzy (in a bad way) and muddy (slightly). As far as post-tracked reverb, I use protools and it does have onboard reverb, but it sounds so false to me. Also, (and this is a noob problem in the extreme) I don't know how to send the reverb effect to the...
Hey, relative newbie here. I've mainly been working at recording guitars for a while, and now I need to move on to vocals. I am recording in my bathroom (natural reverb is good, curtains for dampening, etc) and I need some tips. I know that there is no single "right way" to record anything...
Hey man, I think your voice sounds pretty good on that soundcloud demo, and I have to second some of the posts here (mostly, that emulating rock singers is basically one step removed from emulating gospel and blues singers). But as far as thickening your voice is concerned, there are a few...
Hey everyone!
Thanks so much for all the helpful answers and more. I feel like I may be ready to actually maybe sorta try this haha. I'm sure i'll be back with many more noob questions (and hopefully eventually, more well-thought-out ones) so thanks for answering these!
