Yep. I've never had a problem with them.

    What equipment should I buy

The gear that you already have is good enough. You're next purchase should be an audio interface. You can get a decent one for around $100.

    Help with feedback

Without hearing a sample, I would say that your #1 problem is using your laptop's soundcard.

    Different when played back?

Are you using the same headphones or speakers for playback and recording?

    Help with feedback

First, Welcome. :) A few questions.... What mic are you using? Are you using headphones only or do you also use speakers? What interface are you using or are you using your laptop's soundcard? Can you post a sample of the recording with the noise in it?

    It NEVER sounds the same...

You can get good results with either one. You just have to know how to mix on whatever you use. You have to know your equipment and how it translates on other systems. I've always heard that mixing on monitors was easier, but I wouldn't know....I've always mixed using cans. :o I would love...

    It NEVER sounds the same...

Every system that you listen on will sound different. It is possible to mix with headphones, but generally recommended not to.

Need help making ANOTHER recording software decision?

I used Cubase for years. Then I moved to Reaper. I haven't even opened up Cubase since I started using Reaper and will likely never use anything else. So my vote is for Reaper. (obviously)

I've been pondering over a new laptop for a while and have pretty much come to the conclusion to buy a Lenovo T520 or W520. How do you like yours?

Check out this mix......What do ya think???

Alright...so I took some advice and added a little more verb on the vox and a little more lows to the bass and brought the bass up a tad. Here is a mix without drums in case anyone wants to add some drums to it. :D Thanks, Dwayne

Check out this mix......What do ya think???

Bass is something that I usually have trouble with, most likely because my mixing space stinks. Shakers I can do, but what are you talking about by "hand rhythm"? I will definitley post one with drums. Good idea. Thanks for the feedback.

Check out this mix......What do ya think???

Thanks for listening and for the comments. I'll give them a shot when I can. And now for the drums. Is probably should have explained in my original post, but oh well. My intentions when starting this project was to use midi drums just for tempo, then track real drums. However, our...

Check out this mix......What do ya think???

It's been a while since I've been on HR. Work & life in general has got me CRAZY BUSY. I've been messing around with this mix for a few months and it sounds decent to me, but what do you think? I need a fresh perspective from the good folks at HR. NOTE: UPDATED SONG WITH NO DRUMS IN POST...

so you think you need the latest computer???

Yeah. I'm sure that mixing on this machine would be difficult. But a lot of people think that they have to have the most up to date machine for everything when that's not the case. I mix on a slightly more up to date machine. Core 2 Duo, 3 gb RAM, XP, reaper.

so you think you need the latest computer???

The only things I did was turn off the screen savers/power saving options and in the Control Panel set the performance option to Adjust for Best Performance.

Any suggestions for my first set-up?

An easy solution would be something like the Zoom H1 or the Tascam DR-05.
