Live 'staying in tune' problems *grrrrr*

By "loose tuners" what I was referring to was the actual tuner shaft not being as tight as it should be in the peghead. The little screws that hold them in place can back out, and I've seen those press-in bushings back out on the front. I thought a guy posted something about that here a few...

Live 'staying in tune' problems *grrrrr*

Aside from the other things mentioned: Loose tuners will slip this way. But I'd be surprised to see that on all three guitars. I hear if you wrap the strings around the tuners a bazillion times instead of just two or three, you'll get this kind of trouble, as it's got too much room to keep...

Teaching Audio / school for audio

Ok, I'll go ahead and suggest the obvious. See if you can find a few people who do what you want to do, and see what their qualifications are. Academia can be a tough market to break into. There are a few good jobs, and a _lot_ of crappy jobs. I teach math at the college level, so I can tell...

    Wiring Question

I don't know that I'm going to be able to shield it -- the thing's going to be semi-hollow, and I didn't have the foresight to partition off a separate control cavity when I was starting it. I'd have to shield the whole lower bout, which is kind of irregularly shaped on the inside. I think the...

    Wiring Question

Isn't that what a DPDT switch does? The thing has 6 pins on it, and it was my understanding that the left and right sides were independent. As I understand it, when the switch is pulled up, the top on each side is connected to the corresponding middle pole. When the switch is down, the middle...

    Wiring Question

Yeah, I was between this setup and just having individual coil taps for the pickups. I just wasn't sure how useful the single+humbucker sounds would be. The point of the bypass was to do a quick change between two sounds without having to turn 4 knobs. Usually if I need two different sounds...

    Wiring Question

Hello all, My project guitar's not quite ready to wire up yet, but I figure it's time to think about how it's going to be done. It will have two humbuckers. Here's what I want: - No selector switch; both pickups on at all times - Independent Volume control and tone controls for each pickup...

Tascam 424 mkII recording 1st track twice(im dumb, help)

I also use the direct mode because I never liked that whole panning thing, and I haven't had that kind of a problem. Here's a silly question: are you sure it's actually recording the duplicate onto the new track, and you're not just hearing the tape cue of the first track? If you have the...

Homebuilt guitar take two, critiques welcome!

Hi, Lurker here. Thanks to the O.P. for posting a non-flame thread. It's funny that this one is much less popular. And the guitar looks _fantastic_. I'm currently working on my first project also, and I will freely admit that yours looks much more professional than mine ever will. I also am...

    Another Wiring Question

I'm only just getting into this myself, but the idea seems workable to me. Am I correct in thinking that if you just hook the red and white conductors together and not to anything else, a humbucker is wired just like a single-coil? If so, if you weren't interested in coil-tapping, I'd assume...

How should I flesh this out?

That wooliness is definitely because of of the line-out situation. I could hear that right off, because I used to record the same way when I first started. The playing is fine, but even a cheap mic on that amp will sound a hundred times better than the line out. If you like the wool, that's...

As I Lay Dying Cover (my first upload!)

Disclaimer: I'm listening on headphones. Ok, I don't know the song, so I went to the band's myspace and listened to the original for comparison. Very tight recording on your part. And the vocals are fine -- your screaming sounds a little more Pantera than AILD to me, but it works fine...

    audacity?

Yeah, it's probably more likely that my problem is somewhere in between the headphones :). Actually, I usually track into Audacity from tape, so I have a feeling it's more related to slight speed variations on the tape. My point is it's still relatively easy to fix. Edit: I remembered where...

    audacity?

I also do this. It may be a memory thing; I immediately had less problems with this issue when I upgraded my computer a year or two ago. The other thing I run into is that sometimes the latency is not uniform over the course of the track; a rough alignment using time shift is usually enough...

    Help! Mixing in new space

No bass, hey? Ok, while I think a bass would sound good in there, I've seen the two-person thing done successfully before. Even on the verses, you can get by without it, but I think the chorus definitely needs more punch in the lower frequency range. Listening again, it sounds like you're...

    Help! Mixing in new space

This is nice -- it kind of reminds me of some early 90's Jawbox stuff. I like the time changes. At first I was thinking this mix felt empty in the middle, but then I saw there was no bass player. I think adding in a bass track should fill out the mix a lot more, especially in the chorus. I...

    Neck Bolt Ferrules

Thanks. It's a first-project guitar. I built a body to fit an old neck and used the existing holes in the neck instead of filling / re-drilling, so the screws don't line up in a perfect rectangle on the back. The joint's not perfect, but I want to try to make it as secure as possible.

    Neck Bolt Ferrules

Anybody ever used these? http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Hardware,_parts/Electric_guitar:_Covers_plates/Neck_Mounting_Ferrules.html As an alternative to a neck plate. I'm just wondering if it would work as well, since there wouldn't be the stabilizing force behind the bolts.

    How do you remain original

I also struggle with this on a regular basis. I periodically find that my music is getting stale, that my fingers keep wanting to play the same guitar parts over and over again. Usually I find that the problem is not enough outside influence; I've been listening to the same five cds for too...
