What do i need auidio interface/mic preamp or else to make my vocals sounds great!

Your interface is fine. The secret to good recording is a good microphone. You can go spend $1000 and buy a Neumann mic or you can by a cheap MXL990 and have it modified by Michael Joly, John Bonnell or a myriad of other modders out there. I have had two MXL 603S modded and they sound...

    gimme hell!

Nice voice. I would like the vocal to be just a touch louder. I think the song benefits from the vocal a lot. Nice job. Just a little pitchy at the end (about the 4 minute mark on.)

    How to get this tone?

My advice is to be happy with what you have. You are not Jared Leto and I think the biggest mistake a singer can make is trying to be someone he/she is not. Figure out your own vibe and go with it. You have different genetics so your voices will most likely sound differently. The raspy thing...

Which Mic to get for around $300

Get the cheapest mic you can get and have it modded by Michael Joly or John Bonnell. Bonnell is cheaper but doesn't replace the capsule. I've had mics done by both and they both sound excellent.

    Anyone messed with DIY mics?

I have had 3 mics modded. 2 MXL 603S mics and an MXL R40 ribbon mic. I am currently having an MXL V63M modded as well. Most of the mics you get under $300 Use cheap cheap cheap components. After having my mics modded I have noticed a huge difference. I used to record vocals or guitar and...

Mic Comparisons: Bonnell Modded MXL 603s v. AKG 170 Unmodded v. MXL R40 Joly Mod

I have done a comparison of these three mics. The Bonnell Mic is at the beginning. I just got the pair today. I compared them to the AKG Perception 170 pair and then I am throwing in the Joly Ribbon Mic which he modifed the MXL R40. The only production done on these mics is I normalized them...

Article: Some Things to Think about When Choosing Microphones

I just purchased a Michael Joly modified MXL R40. I can tell you that you don't have to compromise much with these modified mics. The first thing I did was turn it up all the way to see what it sounded like. It was dead silent. Until I made some noise. The noise from the mics is from crappy...

Michael Jolie MXL R40 Ribbon Mic Mod

Bonnell I was so impressed with this Mod I decided to send two MXL 603S' to John Bonnell and get a feel for how good his modifications are. If they are good I will send him an LDC. Or rather than mod an LDC I might buy a KEL from Canada as they appear to be a bit cheaper than Mr. Joly's mod...

Michael Jolie MXL R40 Ribbon Mic Mod

He replaced the thicker ribbon with a thinner one and took out the slack. Replaced the cheap chinese electronic components with high quality ones. If you are asking for more specifics I can't really say other than to quote his web site: "This OktavaMod upgrade to the MXL R40 converts the...

Michael Jolie MXL R40 Ribbon Mic Mod

OK so I did it. I finally bought a modded mic from Michael Joly. I have an MXL R141 ribbon mic that I like but you cant turn it up all the way because of hiss (sibilance) and noise. It does a decent job. So I bought the modded R40 thinking it was already done and I wouldn't have to wait for...

How many people here DON'T use pitch correction in there mixes?

I have it on Mixcraft 6 and use it on vocals but generally don't on instruments. It works great.

    AKG Perception 170

I recently bought a pair or used MXL 603S mics and paid the money for an upgrade of both. Worked on one but not on the other. The one it worked on did show improvement. Since I was down to one mic I decided to buy at least one second mic and did some research and found the AKG Perception 170...

Please Help: Issues with Recording Acoustic Guitar

I would say if the sound is distorting that you may have the input volume too loud from the mike. I get a better recording if I don't push the mike close to the red. I get the best recordings when it's quite a bit lower.

Whats a great DAW software for recording?

Mixcraft 6 is easy to use and you don't need to be a sound engineer to use it unlike Pro Tools and a lot of other programs out there. It's also reasonably inexpensive.

What recording/mixing software are you using?

I use Mixcraft 6. Very easy to use.

    What DAW do you use?

Mixcraft 5. It does what I need it to do and it is relatively inexpensive and easy to use.

    Good recording software

The soundcard in your computer is not designed to record quality music. For that you need a Computer Interface. Most are good and can do the job. You also need decent recording software. You can get Audacity for free but you get what you pay for. If you are not familiar with sound recording...

Please let me know...do I have hope? Lol.

I take it you are just starting singing? Essentially not bad. A bit pitchy in spots. If you were to get recording software such as Mixcraft 5 it has pitch correction with it. The mic you recorded with is not too good. For a vocal you probably want a condenser mic but you could make due with...
