    Child's First Sound Module

I had given that a little thought, but sonar doesn't like to play nice with software synth when you're using the ASIO drivers (which I have to because none of my other drivers support 24-bit), and my computer is strained from my MOTU as it is--I need about all of the processor cycles I can get...

    Child's First Sound Module

Well, I finally want to add some real midi to my studio--and by finally add some real midi, I mean work for midi for the absolute first time. I somehow managed to get my Casio WK-1630 to play the midi that comes from my computer via my Motu 828mkII. In fact, I'm listening to a midi of the entire...

    isolating snare bleed from overheads

If your still getting a really loud snare even when the overheads're turned away from it, sounds (get it?! pun!!) to me like your room has an affinity for reflecting snare drums--try draping blankets around the kit (good practice in general if you don't have a great sounding room, I think; good...

    casio wk-3000 or 1800

Just go with a Yamaha--the interfaces might not always be as good, but they more than make up for that in sample quality. I had an $80 Yamaha keyboard whose sound kicked the absolutely crap out of my WK-1630--and that thing cost almost $300.

    Amp Distortion vs. Pedal

Pres? What about pre-processors? I've got a DigiTech 2112, and that baby rocks. Well, it does when you pair it with a nice tube amp. It's got 2 AX7's in it--comes with Sovteks, but I swapped 'em out for Telefunkens once when my buddy left his old Ampeg Jupiter 22/B-22X here. The clean rivalved...

    Vocal Techniques

I'm not sure about the B1, however before I got my condensor I did quite a bit of work with an SM57, and my personal favorite position for it is pointing up towards the mouth, generally around 6" or so away. However I probably have a different voice than your singer, so your mileage may vary...

    beepin sound

CD Audio In my experience, I've found the culprit usually to be the CD audio on the soundcard--especially on onboard soundcards. Foot-long unshielded and unbalanced cables running across equipment operating at high frequencies will tend to induce some noise--and assuming your not into ambient...

Enough of this low-end crap--what are good mid-priced mics?

Thanks Hey guys, thanks a lot for all of the help thus far--it's really given me some nice info. I'd like to especially thank Richie--I always knew there was a reason people would spend thousands and thousands of dollars on weddings :-P And to reply to doulos about the pres, ya, you're...

Enough of this low-end crap--what are good mid-priced mics?

My studio's finally reaching the limits of the novice equipment I've had for about the past 6-10 months. I just got a MOTU 828mkII and I now realize just how bad a lot of my equipment is; how much noise, how poor the SNRs are, how the headroom's lower than the ratings of a Sinbad special, etc...

Wow...in hindsight, I'm wondering what I was thinking. Thanks for the slap.

    Aardvark q10 and Windows XP/SMP

My current audio input setup has reached its limits. Well, that's not entirely accurate--it always sucked, I've just finally developed enough of an ear to realize it :) Anyway, I've been searching high and low and quite in depth lately of my next purchase, and I've been looking very intently at...

HELP, problems related to soundcard! i think1

You could be out of phase--however, there could be a negative bias as well, like the previous post said. Both are possible, especially with a crappy sound card. Try upping your sampling rate.
