    Fender Musicmaster Bass

I had a Musicmaster Bass for a while in the late '70's. Back then, Fender actually made short scale strings for these and Mustang Basses, I think the E was .115. Later they went light on the gauges and the strings got floppy. I sold the bass to a friend since I couldn't get the right strings...

    With shitty credit...

There's always at least one blue hair giving everyone else the stink-eye--the only thing those commercials get right.

    Made in US vs overseas

I have a few Korean guitars, the ones that were built to be good guitars are, and quite a few of the cheapo xmas specials are still around. I wouldn't be surprised if the Gibsons you see in Oz are less than stellar--I live in West Virginia, which is the US equivalent of Afghanistan. The dealer...

Has anyone tried the Trade in/cash out @ MF?

And the lowball offers and BSing isn't the half of it--just check out what they are trying to sell this used stuff for. Even the most useless local stores never tried to get 90% of their new price for used stuff. They must have hired the people that run this program from Craigslist ads.

Pawnshop God's Bless me AGAIN !!!

I get a few deals in the local pawns, and I think a lot of that is because I never re-pawn anything--IE, if I buy it, they're never going to see it again. I used to see a lot of that doing repairs--sometimes we'd have the same guitar 5 or 6 times a year. You're doing well if they let you look...

    Cavity Shielding

I used adhesive backed aluminum tape on one of my strat copies just to see how it would work--it didn't get rid of all the hum, but it was a noticeable improvement. Having it 2" wide on a roll also made it much easier to work with. In lieu of conductive backing, I lapped the tape about 3/8"-1/2"...

what should I do with this couch?

If you were anywhere near WVU, I'd get a can of lighter fluid, bundle it with a pack of matches, than post a "Free Couch" flyer--that thing would soon be a black spot in the snow.

    amping classical guitar

I used to work with a classical guitarist who did small to medium size halls, we ended up with an AT condenser that came with a bracket that placed the mic on the treble side of the soundhole. Ran the mike into a JC-77 and had a very serviceable sound with good portability. Of course, with the...

Picked up an old bass cab, but it rattles like crazy!

Depending on how the cabinet's laid out, you could place a couple or more 2x4 "soundposts" between the baffle board and the back to stiffen the cabinet. If all else fails, make the cab front loading and seal up the whole thing.

    pseudo bass guitar?

Around here, it's easier to get a cheap bass than anything else--I've bought every bass I've had for less than $50.00. Just make sure the neck is close to being straight, put some new strings on it and away you go.

    My D String Keeps Breaking!

The D string is usually the most likely to break on a Strat--besides checking the bridge saddle, check the bridge plate beneath the saddle, it may be rough or grooved too.

    Quick 4 track/cassette question

I've had an MT3X since about 1996, definitely get the chrome tape. The next thing would be a small mixer to use in place of the Yamaha's preamps, this will cut down a lot of the hiss and allow you to use some better mics. This will get you started with a much easier learning curve--no computer...

Guild DV acoustics kick much butt!

Congratulations! That's the way to buy an acoustic, find one a few years old so any structural problems will be obvious. You'll probably notice it limbering up some more as you play it in. One of the stores I did repairs for was a Guild dealer, but we never got any of the higher end models in...

Best cheap small diaphragm mic pair?

I think you'll be alright with the C2--I bought the C1 as a starter LDC, and it does OK for what it is. I was just lucky to have some extra cash when the CAD's turned up. A lot of people don't realize that not everyone can just go and drop a couple hundred dollars on a single mic or other gear...

Best cheap small diaphragm mic pair?

The e70's I have never had any bars over the capsule, in fact, the capsules are interchangable--though I didn't get the omnis with the mics. As was said, CAD/Astatic got their model names and mics mixed up in several instances--I remember seeing the MXL/Nady style SDC mics and checking out M...

    What's a Harmony Archtop worth?

Check the neck where it joins the body--if there's any separation, it'll need the neck reset, which can be a real pain on some Harmonys (and expensive).

Best cheap small diaphragm mic pair?

+1 on the e70's, I got a pair by luck, they're labeled as Astatic CTM-1000. The guy I got them from on C'list had pictures that didn't match up with Astatic's pictures. I put 2 and 2 together and gave the guy $40.00, just like he asked.:D

    free native instruments plugin

NI sent me an e-mail with a link since I got GR3 and KORE player from Computer Music. Spent an hour and a half sharing bandwidth with Bill Slowsky, but finally finished the DL. When I started the install on my G4, THEN they tell me it's Intel only.

Lightning Strikes Twice !!(Another Killer Pawnshop Score)

Sometimes things just fall from the sky--I got my Squier ProTone Strat for $100.00 at a local pawn a couple years ago, I guess they didn't notice that extra little decal on the peghead. I had just started a new job, and put the guitar on layaway, when I came back a few weeks later to pick up the...

Shop guys! setups: the extra touches?

I'd be hesitant to do much beyond doing a proper setup. Cleaning cases, etc. will scare off what little mojo the average player has ;).
