Depending on how the cabinet's laid out, you could place a couple or more 2x4 "soundposts" between the baffle board and the back to stiffen the cabinet. If all else fails, make the cab front loading and seal up the whole thing.

Around here, it's easier to get a cheap bass than anything else--I've bought every bass I've had for less than $50.00. Just make sure the neck is close to being straight, put some new strings on it and away you go.

The D string is usually the most likely to break on a Strat--besides checking the bridge saddle, check the bridge plate beneath the saddle, it may be rough or grooved too.

Check the neck where it joins the body--if there's any separation, it'll need the neck reset, which can be a real pain on some Harmonys (and expensive).

+1 on the e70's, I got a pair by luck, they're labeled as Astatic CTM-1000. The guy I got them from on C'list had pictures that didn't match up with Astatic's pictures. I put 2 and 2 together and gave the guy $40.00, just like he asked.:D
