    Contemporary Worship Music

Not here. Same music at every mass, though obviously a slightly different flavor when the choir's there. We've got enough to divide us already without splitting up the parish on musical taste lines as well. I think the walk-a-mile-in-my-sandals admonition applies here. If I only sing /...

    Contemporary Worship Music

It's a long standing debate. "Why should the devil have all the best tunes" is most often attributed to Martin Luther. As a music director at a large (2000+ family) Catholic Church, it's an issue that puts itself before me all the time. Because my chops are strictly from the "profane" side of...

    i'm obsessed with cheap keyboards

We have an old PSR-6000 (I think) at college that looks downright evil. Top folds up like a Voyager or something. Never hooked it up - it might suck soundwise, but still, it looks like it has potential.

    77-88 key digital piano suggestion

Casio Privia. Feel is very good, sound is acceptable, big bang for the buck. $4-600, depending on model. At least some of them are hammer-action. The 300 got a nice write-up in Keyboard Mag last month. There WAS a Radio Shack knockoff that was dirt cheap when it went on closeout, but those...

    Yamaha DX9

DX-11 patches won't work on a DX-9. Both are 4-op, but the DX-11 had 8 waveforms instead of the sine-only DX-9's. There are lots of great DX-7 (6-op sine) and DX-11 sounds out there - and very few great DX-9 sounds. The DX-9 just wasn't complex enough to really make it sing.

    i'm obsessed with cheap keyboards

I tried some real cheap old modules - U-220, Proteus-1, Kawai K-10 - ecch. But others - Yamaha TQ-5 in particular - sound real good. And I've got a PSR-6 - 4 voice polyphony, LOL - that's waiting for the right opportunity to add some lo-fi goodness to some track somewhere.

Acid Pro - Does it work on Macs?

No. But Garage Band is very similar to Acid.

Anyone played Wersi Giga Piano GP1000?

Not a fan of the HALion grand. And what's this about new software, end of 2003? That doesn't sound promising. Got a price? Seems definitely aimed for the home crowd, with sequencing, rhythm, karaoke (eesh!), etc. And no mention of sample rate / bit rate. Plus it's Wersi. Those guys are weird.

Recommend Me a Midi Controller For My Needs

CME UF-5. I have two (one for church, one for studio), they're wonderful. Only missing memory. Semi-weighted keys, similar to a Kurz SP-88. Forget how much I paid, maybe $250?

    Alesis Fusion hiatus

I like my Fusion, but the default sounds don't measure up to Kurz or Yam. And the deal was about the same with my QS-8. Great feeling board, though. The deal with Fusion is its potential. But gotta find time to make that happen...

    Dongle Crack for SX 2

little red triangle, upper right hand corner. There is free sequencing software for people who can't afford the big ticket items. Some of it is quality stuff. Crackz & warez users are f%^&ing thieves, period. No excuse, no justification.

    Working Live

Sorry to have missed your response, Flo - I THOUGHT I subscribed to the thread. Stupid HR tricks, maybe... Anyhow, the idea is to keep it interactive - my big gripe about sequencer gigs is that the give-n-take is gone. My hope is actually that we can work it out so that the DJ gets his own...

    Alesis QS8 syth

The new 8.2 goes for about $1000 street - the 8.0 is just as good - same sounds. $400 might be a bit low, but I'm sure you can get it for less than 6 bills. The feel is great, and if you can find the Vintage Keys or Vintage Synths expansion cards, they rock! Daf (owns an 8.1, played an 8.0 at...

    Working Live

Hiya. Not really a recording or hip-hop specific question, but... ...I'm looking to set up a "band" of sorts with another keyboard player - she sings, too - I'll probably play left hand bass. We're talking about bringing in a 3rd member who'd be in charge of "beats." Probably a combination...

    Subject: good piano VST's?

There are pretty good freebies from mda and Ilio. The most convincing piano I've heard so far is in the Garritan Personal Orchestra, but I'm not sure how well it will translate to pop styles. Awesome for solo piano, though. Daf

    Limiting in Soundforge

WaveHammer does both compression and limiting (I think they call it volume maximization?). You have to got to the second tab on the WaveHammer box - it opens to compression by default. This is based on 6.0 - dunno how different 4.5 was... Daf

    Jamfest Equipment List

Not really interested in midi-ing them together, but it might be nice to have a second big board there - either for two stack stuff, or so me and Ralphie can play at the same time. Your call. Health still no better. I'll post back when I have a better handle on what's going on - probably a...
