Thanks for all the great advice! I think I will give the E drums a try and perhaps record real cymbals with a couple of overheads. If the snare ends up sounding fake, I may use a real snare also. It seems that the toms and kick are the hardest parts to get sounding good on an acoustic kit...

Recording and playing the kick drum separate.. Does anyone here do that? I am primarily a guitarist and by recording the kick drum separate, it seems I can concentrate better on my durmming, but wonder if I give up anything in sound?

What are the big advantage(s) in using a digital mixers? I know the sound quality is probably a bit cleaner, but would it be something that you can actually hear? I have a HD24 Alesis and am about to buy something to mix with. I was going to just get a Mackie analog board but started thinking...

It is challanging to get a really good sound out of an acoustic kit especially when the room is not optimized for recording. I am wondering if an electronic kit would be a better way to go for recording? I figure I could still use real cymbals and just record the rest of the electronic kit...

Huuuhh?? Yes, after playing a four hour set my ears were ringing well into the next day. Ringing ears indicate damage. I do have some hearing loss, and do were ear plugs whenever I am around something loud.

I have phase cancelation probs on a pair of Sm57s. How are you supposed to reverse phase on a mic like a Shure SM57 or Sm58?? There is no phase switch on the mics or switch on my Mackie mixing board.... ...sorry if this is a dumb question, but I really don't know.

No, The Mackie can only do 12 tracks at 96Khz and the same with the Alesis. Do you think you could ever heard the difference...beyond 22 kHz? ...I don't think I could. I think the Alesis can do 88kHz and 24 channels.

After recording drum tracks and listening to each channel separately, there is an amazing amount of bleed through on each channel.....especially the snare. The snare buzzes every time any other drum is hit. Is this stuff typically edited out for each drum? Is that what they do (or one of the...

I am miking the kick drum about 4 inches from the beater. I tried playing to the guitar track instead of the click, but basically got the same problem. I may just end up cutting and moving the track.
