Per channel volume montering in headphones

I have my Pres going into my Delta 44 inputs, which I setup (the Delta inputs) to get re-routed to the outputs, so I have my two microphone signals essentially split into my PC and then individual channels on my Mackie mixer. As such, I can control the levels on the mics during tracking...

Using the same voice for melody and harmony

Alot of 10,000 Maniacs songs have Natalie Merchant harmonizing with herself. Sounds fine (well, more than fine!) to me. ;-)

    plugin

There's a Photoshop plug-in that you pick a photo you really like (say of a pretty mountain in the rockies) taken with REALLY nice gear (Canon 5D, L-lens, whatever, excellent light as well) and then you take your photo of the little hill in your backyard taken with your POS (errr, I mean P&S)...

    Monitor hookup

http://mercenary.com/greatrivel4c.html, the MP2 is the same but 2 channels and unbalanced outputs (via XLR jacks! :D ). I paid around $1200 for mine back in 2000. The MPX series are Great River's "clean" preamps, most folks usually talk about their MP2NV, which is their more "colored" pre...

    Monitor hookup

My answer would be "It is a TRS cable, capable of carrying TWO signals" These two signals can be the two that make up a single balanced signal, OR two unbalanced signals (ala stereo) So you're saying since my Sony headphones have a TRS cable on the end, they must be balanced? :D

    Monitor hookup

WRONG! See my post on the Great River MP2. Do you really work for Shure?

    Monitor hookup

OK, my Great River MP2 has unbalanced outputs via an XLR connection. :)

    Help ($200 sound cards)?

Nope, balanced vs. unbalanced is different then the operating level of the equipment (-10 vs. +4). What confuses people is that generally balanced connections run at +4 and unbalanced at -10. But you can have unbalanced +4 (my Great River MP2 runs at +4, unbalanced out of XLR jacks) or balanced...

No problems reading bass and treble clef. I'm glad I took piano lessons as a youngster!

How Is A Rack Compressor Used w/ PC Recording?

OK, orson, you've convinced me! I'm going to stick an Alesis 3630 in between my Great River MP2 and Delta 44. Now my recordings will sound professional. :)

How Is A Rack Compressor Used w/ PC Recording?

Yep. Clipping=bad. If you are tracking 24-bits, turning down the incoming signal is the way to do prevent clipping. If you are tracking 16-bits, time to upgrade! But hey, if you'd rather cram your tracks into a Alesis 3630 before the A/D converters so you can record tracks that peak at...

How Is A Rack Compressor Used w/ PC Recording?

NOPE! Once it hits the A/D converter and clips, it is clipped! No software can recover that clipping. If you are tracking 24-bit signals, don't worry about recording too close to 0. You'll be fine if you keep the peaks around -6 or so. Clipping=bad. Headroom=good :D

    Mixer for the job

I have the 1202 VLZ Pro and it works fine with the Delta 44. No reason why the 1402 wouldn't work. I vote operator error.

    Production Equipment

You took the words right out of my mouth! Too many "producers" want to start "producin' beatz" before learning about music or playing an instrument. Folks - Please learn to walk before you try to run!

    Martin

Got my first Martin in 1992 when I was 15 - a D16H. This is nothing at all like the current 16-series, it has sitka top, mahogany B&S, rosewood bridge/fingerboard, forward-shifted scalloped bracing, herringbone rosette (ala a HD28!) and tortoise-shell body binding. Structurally, it's pretty much...

    Best soundcard?

In you case you don't get what people are saying, you use Output 1 as left and Output 2 as right. You don't need stereo from one jack, I would wager that most quality interfaces only have MONO (and usually balanced) signals coming out of each jack (be it 1/4 TS/TRS or XLR).
