I'm using a Fender Jag-Stang with Seymour Duncan pickups (JB humbucker at bridge, Hot Rails at neck), and I mainly use the JB. I'm going to test it out with lower gain tommorow. I've tried it before but it's kind of weak, but maybe I just haven't tinkered around with it enough.

The sweepable mids work rather well...I don't have the greatest ears so I can't really tell if they're pulling in other frequencies really, but tinkering around with them, you can usually boost or lower what you need. And yes, it has individual tape outputs. I have never used the MIDI controls...

The 688 has individual track outs, as well as a 20 input mixer (10 XLR, 10 1/4"), so even if you do choose to use your computer, you could use the mixer section of the 688.

hmmmm... Since they use actual tubes, and the amount of time the tubes have been warmed determine the sound in a way...during all tests, did you have the ARTs turned on for the relatively same amount of time? ;)
