I've gotten a chance to use the compressor and I must say I'm happy I bought one!
When I tracked vocals everything was even and clear and I didn't have to keep looking at my computer screen to see if I was clipping or not.
thanks for everyone's help!!
Hey all
I'm a clueless EQ user right now. I'm new to the whole recording deal and I was wondering if any of you knew a good website to read up on the very basics of EQ
rolloffs, bands, hz, etc.....
<-- clueless :)
thanks in advance!
well I guess I can always run a cable from my soundcards' mic out into my gina'a input in and just record a click track about as long as I think the song is
that sucks :(
well I tried setting up the metronome to use while recording
after some playing and setting adjustment I got the metronome to play out of my PC speakers but not out of my echo gina headphone jack. While recording vocals, of course I can't have a loud metronome in the background :)
there...
Just wondering...
I have a condenser mic(requires phantom) a pre-amp and a compressor/limiter rackmount
and I dump it all into my computer
Should I plug into the compressor first, then the pre-amp or the pre-amp first then the compressor?
both have XLR inputs
ok so I'm returning the Nady 1050 tube mic after about 30 people I let listen to my mp3 comparison voted that the SM58 was a better overall sound
pooh on that
I went out today and got a SHURE KSM27 Condenser Mic $299
and I even got a Behringer 2200 compresser/limiter for $99 (at that price, I...
I got an RA number to return the darn thing
I'm heading to west LA music after work to grab me a shure ksm27 to see how that puppy compares, if its relatively the same I'll just keep the nady
well to me the 58 just sounds a little warmer and the nady seems to sound tinny when I go higher and louder
what micing techniques are you suggesting I try?
mixmkr, can you recommend any good books out there on getting started with recording techniques?
I definately think there is room for improvement there
you can also compare my vocals to these mp3's done at a professional studio with producer Jim Wirt

yes, the shockmount said "I MEAN BUSINESS" :)
I can't help it, I'm an impulse buyer
and your right, my ears do need more training, thats why I posted the before and after to see if you guys can help me get those ears where they need to be.
I really don't know what to look for other than the...
lol yea I have the 58 in my hands while I was sitting here in the chair, I didn't feel like undoing the shockmount on my stand
<-- lazy :)
the 58 sounded better than I thought it would for "shure" hehe
I just did a quick take with the new nady 1050 for the first verse and first chorus and then another track with a sure 58 for the 2nd verse and chorus, through the same pre-amp both with same reverb and compression settings
here is the mp3... what do you guys think? is it worth keeping the...
well I am an asswipe and just bought them out of a catalog based on mics in that price range and what came with them
I did some searches and nothing really came up on the nady, guess cause its new still
I'll play around with it tonight and see what I can get out of that sucker
