    Outboard Analog EQ - Suggestions?

Re: The TASCAM PE-40 is great, when you can find it,... Someone on this forum was bidding for a PE-40 about three weeks ago... think they missed out though. Comprehensive in the tweaking department but would definately benefit from an opamp upgrade. Cheers

Re: DIY Calrec PQ1549.. Thanks Jakob! :) BTW I still owe you guys schematics for the RME opto limiter I posted the thread on about two weeks ago at recording.org (under my other name) ;) Still trying to find where I put the manual. Cheers

You know what really chaps my ass!!!

AND another case! My Aunt is quite a kite expert here in Australia. Some years back she wrote a book called 'Kite Folds' which is available in the US. Some time later she received notification of another kite book by an American author. Guess what? Her entire book was plagiarised by this guy...

Clean, warm signal on a small budget?

Keep your eyes peeled for some office divider panels. You know those carpeted panels about two inches thick and often around 6' x 4' in size they use in typing pools etc. If you mount some 2 foot long 4" x 2"s on the bottom edge as feet you can free stand them and move them around the room to...

Mic pre for acoustic guitar & some vocals

The pre's you've described... Joe Meek, maybe Vintech Neve clone etc. are all quite colored. If you're looking for that kind of '70's Neve'ish kind of "Rolling Stones' acoustic sound (ala "Angie" etc) then definately go for one of them. It really depends on your playing style. If you are into...

    Studio Projects Thought Police?

"Must have... B-E-H-R-I-N-G-E-R!!... Gimme B-E-H-R-I-N-G-E-R!!" "Marge!... Homey's not feeling well... must have B-E-H-R-I-N-G-E-R!!" "BART!!!... Where have you hidden MY B-E-H-R-I-N-G-E-R!!"

    Outboard Analog EQ - Suggestions?

I'm looking to purchase a decent two channel outboard eq without spending a fortune. I'm NOT interested in a box that includes pres and dynamics etc... just eq. It's main use will be eq'ing MS recordings of acoustic guitars and other acoustic instruments... mainly in a corrective (ie. cutting)...

    Studio Projects Thought Police?

Hi, Alan, Brent, Justin... and whoever else is there from PMI land. I like my C3's (fortunately!) but I wonder if the Chinese, apart from manufacturing your SP mics, have had their thought police give some of you guys lessons! I wonder if criticising my Neumann would result in the Gestapo a...

    Oktava MK - 319 vs SP C1

Ditto... I'd probably be a little wary of the NTK too if you're concerned about upper mid accentuation. It may be tube... but is still quite colored up top. The NTK works very well in many situations but sizzly mics whether an NTK or C1 or whatever are definately 'horses for courses'! Although...

Do I need a shock mount?

Hmmm... well some time back just after finishing my shower, and before jumping into the sack with my girl who was waiting patiently. ;) I made a sudden, and completely unfounded decision to shave off my beard. I'd had a beard since she known me for the previous couple of years. Well after...

    akg c451eb + ck1

Ditto! Just about any acoustic instrument where you want some nice crisp highs. Piano is another possibility. BTW... even though they are not classed as vocal mics, on certain singers a 451 can be magic! ;) Just be sure that they sound the same. The capsule diaphragms often fail at the edges...

    hardware multi-effects units

I agree on the TC M-One if you want a good sounding hardware unit without spending a fortune... though make sure it's the M-One 'XL' version... the XL has better algorithms and more of them. While it's not top of the range, IMO it beats the equivelantly priced Lexicon units. As for reverb...
