akg c451eb + ck1

hi all,

i've been offered a really good deal on two akg c451eb's with ck1 cartridges, anyone had experience with them?

i know that they are well regarded for drum o/h and acoustic guitar but i'd like to know what other creative uses have been found for them!

Just about any acoustic instrument where you want some nice crisp highs. Piano is another possibility.

BTW... even though they are not classed as vocal mics, on certain singers a 451 can be magic!

Just be sure that they sound the same. The capsule diaphragms often fail at the edges where they are glued. I think you can purchase just the element that fits inside the CK1 head for about $60 USD.

i should be able to get them for £200 all in so i'm not bothered about having to replace the capsules if necessary
