    preamps??? Shure sm48 or pg58??

Yes. In the scheme of things... 100 dollars is NOTHING. You'll be amazed at how quickly you'll regret buying a mic with a preamp built in. Work an extra day at minimum wage and you are half way there.

    A Mic for my voice....

Don't go protools man... keep your options open.

    preamps??? Shure sm48 or pg58??

You're not going to get a preamp and mic that's usable for $100... you could get on musiciansfriend.com and get an mxl 990 set for $60 (which is at least kind of usable for more detailed stuff like vocals and acoustic guitar... the pg and lower end shure stuff won't be) Add to that a low end...

    Shure PGDMK4 Package

Hey... I got that set for 170 on ebay and I know you can get it for cheaper. I think it's totally worth it as long as you spring for an SM 57 or something comparable on snare. I also think it's worth it to get drumagog (a sampling program) for your kick. Your snare and kick are going to be...

    tom delonge's amp settings

I said nothing about his ability. I said his guitar tone is good enough to sell millions of records. That said, people don't just become famous. He worked hard to get where he is and I totally respect him. The fact is, there is a reason why he is living in a million dollar house down here in...

    mic preamps and guitar/bass

Your pres should be doing you fine. They may be limiting... but not that limiting. If you do need to go out and buy some kind of preamp, go get a sansamp (guitar preamp) rackmount on ebay for like 125-175. They are nice.

A different kind of mix contest

Sounds pretty good... I like the creativity. There's a lot of room for improvement but I like it. I think you need to turn down your levels... it sounds like its clipping. I'm not a fan of chorus on all the (clean or acoustic) guitars although it's fine for the beginning in my opinion. Drums...

It looks like this thing is done now. Thanks a lot caryindy for a great experience. It was a lot of fun and I think we all really enjoyed it. Fun song to mix :D

Blue Bluebird VS. GT66 for male vocals

I owned the GT55 for a while and wanted to love it, but just didn't. I like chinese condensers for my voice. (I also thought I liked it for a few days, but it takes more than that for you to bring up the old mic)The GT55... a lot like the AT3035 for me was just too dark... the vocals I...

    tom delonge's amp settings

His live sound sounds just like his recorded sound. He also doesn't use any pedals (unless they are in the back) If you get his signature strat or mod your strat and use a mesa rectifier you should be able to work it out with experimentation. It's most likely about that invader pickup (I...

    LBC Studios

For your mixes... they don't sound nearly as clear as the one done not by you on that page (for comparison)... I'd say vocals need to be louder and clearer and uhh like thicker. the rest sounds pretty good. keep it up.

Hey Starving Eyes... Autotune is actually really simple... it may look overwhelming though. In the upper left you've got key and scale... for this genre you're most likely going to be only major and minor as your scale. (don't use chromatic) To find your key... if you can't do it...

A different kind of mix contest

This is the kind of criticism I like, you actually named things that could be better. :) I agree with most of the things you said. I made that kick just too loud. However, I think that kind of voice needs this kind of processing, but that's just what I've drawn from the kind of music I listen...

A different kind of mix contest

I'm sorry... I also think Franz Ferdinand's vocalist sounds bad and numerous other huge bands... it's nothing against the guys ability, I just don't like the sound. It reminds me of simple plan and I don't like that either. I apologize if I made anyone feel bad, but it's important to know that...

A different kind of mix contest

I like it too... only things that should be better in my opinion is the vocals (there is that weird delay thing and it sounds like there are too many low mids, like you're overcompensating for the crap of the mic)... and then the kick doesn't cut it as far as I'm concerned. But other than that...

You discredit everything I did with that? I didn't record these tracks man... they wouldn't sound commercial EVER. I hope you at least read what I said.

A different kind of mix contest

Well I have to say, giving me negative feedback because of a difference of opinion is really disappointing. In any event... I come from a younger generation. After listening to your mix, I can tell you that techniques have changed... (according to this type of music) I wouldn't know a thing...

A different kind of mix contest

    1) This is rock man.. it's far more important that the mix is loud... especially if preparing it for the radio. (Which should be in the mind of anyone preparing a song for a rock band... I can point you to many MCA recordings which are SO incredibly compressed) My song is naturally going to...

    M-Audio Omni I/O

They say they are DMP2s in the manual... or something... they sound fine. I'd go for the 1010 or aardvark Q10 or something if you want to expand
