    Installing rack rails

We've just replaced all of our wide area networking equipment at work and I found that I have several left over rack rails. I honestly don't know how that could've happened. I thought my estimates were really close... :-) Anyway, I'm going to be installing these into the computer desk that I use...

    A song.

I like it.... One small thing I noticed was the "slide noise" from the strings is fairly pronounced a couple of times. I get the same thing on some of my recordings and I've never figured out how to get rid of it. I've heard of some new strings that help minimize it called "Elixers ?", anyone...

    3630 or Nano?

I got a nano when I bought the Studio Pack. I didn't like it at all. I still use it, but only for slightly compressing certain individual instruments during recording. I ended up buying a behringer compressor for everything else.

    Lexicon MPX-1

Thanks for the input guys. Looks I'll be getting me an MPX-1 after christmas, unless Santa is REALLY nice this year. I've also started checking out EQs. I've found out that I'm kind of picky about the feel of the sliders. The ones that the local stores carry seem to be pretty cheesy. So I'm...

    Beginner guitars.

Yep, A girl that I've been giving lessons to bought the same one. She bought the beginner pack that has a tuner, picks, strings, string winder, polish, etc. I think she paid just under $200 for it, and it sounds and plays pretty good. I had to do a setup on it to get to play right, but you'll...

    Hey Larry of the Compressors...

Man, I have to agree with the evil one on this. If I'm paying someone to do my recording (and I have), they'd better be doing it the way I want. I can remember going to great lengths and expense to get rid of certain sounds and overtones from my music that were considered to be technically and...

    Lexicon MPX-1

From what I can tell in looking at the MPX-1 and MPX-100, the biggest difference is that MPX-1 has a separate chip to handle just reverb. So, that's one chip for reverb and one chip to handle the other effects. The advantage is that you get your best reverb at all times, since the chip doesn't...

    Wah Radio

Yeah, It's a good idea to deal with it in some way. The biggest problem is that rednecks tend to shoot back. I live in Missouri, so there are A LOT of them around too. Heavily armed people with room temperature intelligence make bad enemies. :->

    Wah Radio

Consider yourself lucky... I used to pick up CB radio on mine. Every time I heard "Breaker-Breaker-Good Buddy" coming out of my rig, I wanted to go out and start shootin' at rednecks.

    A half-baked idea...

True enough about the air conditioning. And hell, I can float right down the Mississippi River on a log to New Orleans from where I live in St. Louis.... of course, getting back would require a little more work. Seriously though, New Orleans, Denver, Phoenix, Zimbabwe, I don't care. I'll go...

    Recording from Line In

Okay, I replaced all the cables and adapters with a single premade cable that has the correct plugs on it....and it works. Imagine that :-> Looks like drstawl was right Trenna, at least in my case. Now I have a whole bunch of other problems. Wierd phasing and freqs. popping in and out, the sound...

    A half-baked idea...

Man, you ain't kiddin' there. The southern states are NO place to be in the summer. Way too hot and humid.

    Gr guitar synths

Guitar synths are great for special effects and for being creative, but they really don't take the place of a keyboard player. The sounds are pretty good, as good you'll get from most keyboard sound modules, but because a guitar is played differently, they sound "different", not necessarily...

    bass rattle please help!

Those are all possibilties if the rattle is coming from the strings or fretboard. Especially the string height and neck adjustment. Just because it's new, doesn't mean it's set up right. Most guitar shops give you one free set up with a new instrument, call and ask if they'll adjust it for you...

    Lexicon MPX-1

That's kinda what I figured. I looked at the MPX-100 too, but the the MPX-1 has the separate reverb chip, seems to make a big difference. Of course it costs more than twice as much, so I would hope the difference would be audible.

    Recording from Line In

HEY !!! I'm having the same problem with MY Toshiba Laptop. I noticed that if you plug into the Mic input , the right is clipped. If you plug into the Line input the left is clipped..... Maybe you have to use both ???? I'm gonna get another cable and try it. If you have the necessary cables...

    Recording from Line In

You may be right about that drstawl. But this is what confuses me, I'm using a cable that has two mono 1/4" plugs at one end and one stereo 1/4" at the other. I plug the single stereo plug into a 1/4" to 1/8" stereo adapter and get the results described above. This is same adapter that I use for...

    Change your 4-track to 7-track?

Yes, it's quality and other things. For one thing when you bounce 3 tracks to one, it's going to be mono, not stereo. Also, you can only record 3 tracks at a time this way. I bounce tracks on my ADAT, but it has 8, so I bounce 6 tracks down to 2 in stereo.

    Reformatting Tapes

You can reuse ADAT tapes, I do it all the time. I just erase them instead of reformatting. Both operations are real time so the time it takes is the same. Erasing just leaves the format info intact. Unless you want to change the sample rate, I don't really see any need to reformat.

    Lexicon MPX-1

I've been looking at multi-effects processors and DAMN, I thought picking out new mics was tough !!! I really don't want to go over a thousand bucks so... I've test driven several and I think I like the Lexicon MPX-1. I know a bunch of people out there have used them so please, give me the...
