I'm not shure i know what you mean, and i arn't shure i know the answer, but here goes... Its probobly a combination of a mic on/picking up the frets of the guitar, a vintage mixer with vintage tube FX and the media recorded on (2 inch tape). omnipotent

The origional Rode Classic i don't own but i have heard it, and it does sound every bit as good as anything elce i've ever listened to. I would also think the Classic 2 would be an improvement. omnipotent

I could be wrong so don't quote me on this, but i have always thought the 57 and 58 have the same wiring but different diaphragm's. Also even if they are the same, the ones i have sound slightly different to me, and both have advantages i guess, but i have always used the 57 on things like...

Correct dobro, the 58 already has a pop filter, but for $150 you won't be able to get a PA as well. omnipotent

I read some where that two or more tubes in a chain (ie. tube mic with tube commpressor) can ruin a mix(or make it not sound as good as it could), i havn't found that but is there any truth in that at all? thanx, omnipotent

To get these affects you need to play with different reverbs/ delays/EQ /Paning till you get what you want. For making a sound seem further away, somthing that sounds really good is a thing called "MS stereo", I probobly arn't the best person to explain it because i arn't an expert at it but...

You sound as if you know what you are talking about so 2 quick qusetions; what do you think is a good in expencive condensor? would you recomend a NT2? omnipotent PS. I'm doing a production now and the only mics i'm using are a few 57's and 58's for the percussion, some sennheiser shotguns...

kristian, for toms most studios use sennheiser md 421's, they are realy good mics and seem to fit the description you gave. They retail for about US$400. While we are off the topic, does anyone know if using two sm57 to give a stereo image, even if i will probobly re-pan them more to one side...

What is your budget? and if your happy with PC's stick to them, as one of the programers of steinberg once said to me "Macs are only an advantage if you know them well, it is very possible to achive the same results on PC" omnipotent
