Lynx One vs. Layla (and other similar soundcards)

This queuestion is primarily directed at Sonusman, but any input would be welcome. Ed, I hear you talking about how impressed with the Lynx One, you are. I went to their Website and I was impressed aswell. But of course theres always the problem that will turn many people off them, that is, it...

Setting out to mic drum kit

Hmmmmm.... Now, this question isn't a problem for me, but just out of interest (i apologise to Cakey2 because this question isn't directly to do with his topic). Say i was micing up a drum kit with 4 mics, 1 bass (d112/re20/pro25...), 1 snare (sm57/beta57...) and 2 overheads. What would be...

    used Rode NT1

I would probobly select a 414 first on many applications, but both are great mics. $500 Canadian, sounds like a bit much for a seccond-hand NT2. But you should listen to it. I belive not all NT2's are created equaly(some sound better than others). omnipotent :)

    used Rode NT1

I obviously don't hear things the way you do but i can't see the NT1 sounding better than a 414, unless you were talking about the NT2, which i like probobly as much(with a bit of fiddeling, and the right pre), but they have a compleatly different quality to them. I guess it just comes down to...

    $300 in gear wasted?

That is probobly why then.... I like the idea of deadening everything with blankets. What you should try though, is recording a vocal track with your old mic. Recording quite a few takes with your new setup (each time with the mic at a differant hight, distance and angle(write down how you did...

    Mic Cable for installation

Is that stuff about the cable being warmer, or better quality, your words or the company spokespersons words. What i'm saying is can anyone 'really' hear the differance? if so why wouldn't people use it on every mic in the studio, rather than using other types of monstercable. It could be just...

need to mic a guitar amp....what should I use

If it's just for micing electric guitar through an amp, then i would recomend an AT4033, i don't think you would need the extras of the 4050. I recomend this mic cause whenever i have used it or heard it on an amp it has sounded great. Also there are lots of great reviews on the mic, and...

    $300 in gear wasted?

Hay, I would like to help you but first i have a few questions. What are you monitoring with? Are you knew to recording? Have you experimented with other micing positions? The differance should be noticeable, i'm guessing that you either; monitoring through PC speakers/headphones, You are still...

    AT3525 & NT1, Differences?

Hold on there, Recording Engineer, I think "bragging" was probobly the wrong word, and i wasn't questioning your credibility, I don't think you would ever go out of your way to sell a faulty product. Also I do care if you take it personaly, I'm hear for fun and knowlege i don't want to make...
