    Vintech 1272 vs. UA 2108 ????

From what i've gathered about these two units they are good "balls-y" pre-amps.... especially on drums. But if the 1272 and the 2108 had Battle Roy-al which would be the pound for pound best overall pre??? I am probably going for a Sytek unit and as I've heard that has a cleaner character, I...

M-Audio Delta 1010lt and Abelton Live Delta

From what I've read ...... Alberton should be a lot like ACID. It should have its own explorer window and you should be able to drag and drop files into a "track" and then "paint the loops to length. It should have a set of transport buttons to start/stop/pause the playback and the options...

Tell us again how pointless it is to mix with the monitors crancked up loud.

Is it true that the 85dB level helps most with low end??? I thought I remember hearing that you will be able to get a better handle on the bass (especially) at 85dB listening level. .... or is it just a generall advantage to the ears response?? -mike

    Rode NT3

I have had one for a while .... and the only reason I had to use it was the battery power option for getting half assed recordings (to a Marantz cassete recorder) of some shows or a jam. But ,...... I did some recording for a friends band and it was an extra mic so we put on the Marshall cab...

    Mackie MDR 24/96 vs. ADAT-HD ????

Thanks Dave. I was wondering about the Mackie format. Of course the official Mackie info implies that the formatting is propritary also but I guess not. I think though that I am now leaning towards the ADAT. It actually does have a standard ethernet port and I would be most just do projects...

    Samson c02 anyone have these?

DANGER!!!! DANGER Will Robinson!!!! I had the CO2's for 1 day before returning them. Extremely noisy IMO!!!. Unusable in recording acoustic/clasical guitar. Didnt sound bad but much to much self noise. Its possible I got a bad set but they are rated at like 24db or something. Not too good...

do you get what you pay for w/ mic pre's

I think a spin on everything mentioned so far is...... ..... track count also. I probably cant hear a dramatic difference (like $1000 to $1500 dollars per channel worth of difference) between a DMP3 and a Great River if I'm listening to one track side by side ........ sure the Great River will...

    Mackie MDR 24/96 vs. ADAT-HD ????

I have the oportunity to purchase a Mackie MDR 24/96 (used) for about the same price as a new ADAT-HD. I was leaning towards the ADAT because it takes regular (cheap) IDE drives as opposed to the proprietary Mackie Media drives...... (anybody know how much these are??). I like the fact that...

    Beyer m69

The M69 was my most recent purchase. Used on snare and guitar cabs a one vox track. Smoother than the SM57 with less grit and a little more low end. Works real good closer to the center of the cone IMO. On a particular track I did for this last project (which I'm still mixing uhhg) the M69...

to mix or not to mix in mp3?

There are other compression schemes out there also. You might try FLAC or SHN (shorten) schemes. I dont trust ZIP with my audio files ....... had occasional instances of them not opening properly and such. FLAC and SHN are both lossless. I prefer FLAC FRONTEND to encode because you can set the...

How do you record bass for Rock/heavy music?

Building on what Chess and Cloneboy stated.... Blend a DI and mic'd amp. The amp rig is the 3rd most important thing. 1st is your fingers and playing technique. 2nd of course is the instrument. 3rd is the amp (if using one). I am not extremely familair with the bands you mentioned but Korn...

Albums with best sounding acoustic guitars???

Zappa's the Grand Wazoo. Blessed Relief has a great acoustic quasi chordal solo (thats a medical term :D ) towards the end and the title tracks has a good acoustic sound too for the rythm track..... very breezy sounding...... I think it was an ovation that he used too..... go figure. I also...

    New Studio Projects Stuff

Toft unit reviewed in Tape Op I believe tony Viscontti (sp?) "guest" reviewed the unit and gave it a glowing review ....... especially the EQ section which he described as worth the price alone. I beleive he makes note of of the fact that the compressor is post eq only but says (or editor...

    Monitoring while recording???

Cant monitor the track being recorded. Can hear the already recorded tracks but not the one bieng overdubed. Can view the recording levels but cant hear the track. So, if for instance you were overdubbing a guitar solo onto a rythm bed, i can hear the rythm bed but not the sound of the solo...
