    Recodring Desks

Green Hornet: I was looking for a desk, not deck, as in a place to put all of my "stuff" and keep myself organized. But decks will be a future purchase, so thanks for the info. I'd like something with rack spaces, but they seem to cost over $700. I don't want to pay $400 for a desk that has...

    Recodring Desks

Anyone know where I could get a decent recording desk for a fair price? Most of the one's I've seen advertised seem a bit expensive.

What do you think should be next??

Do you have a software program for recording? If not, I would get one and learn how to use it. If you have one and are pretty farmiliar with it, I would go with some moniters, but that;s just my opinion. All of your ideas will come in handy eventually.

In a quandry...Roland, ADAT or Computer?

Hi. I've got a Roland 1680 which I use along with my computer. That seems to be a heavily favored way to go, but going with just a computer works great for many people as well. (I would rule out the ADAT, not worth the orice for only 8 tracks). The Roland machines are protable, and the...

    Should I buy VS880EX?

There's ups and downs to both sides. I got a 1680, and I send a stereo track to my computer for mastering. That might be a good way to go....best of both worlds. It might help if you specify more what u r gonna do: # of tracks, fx you need/have, midi, ect...

    CDRW

I've been doing lots of research on CDRW's, and I've noticed that I really got to find a detailed list of specs before it says weather or not it is up to Red Book standards. All of them so far have been up to all standards. This leads me to believe that most if the CDRW's out now are up to Red...

    cd-r help requested

Hi. I'm basically in the same boat as you are. I use the 1680 though. What I'm going to do is go from my 1680 to a pc via the digital output, and then burn to CD. Burners are going for around $200 and up. You can get a soundcard for under $400 also. Just save up a bit and get one thing at...

    What does this stuff do?

What are PCI slots, ISA slots, AGP slots and what are they used for? Are they a necessity for computer recording systems?? The reason why I ask is cause I'm getting a new computer soon. Also, does anyone have an opinion if I should buy a computer made specifically for recording, or just get...

    What does this stuff do?

Emeric, Thanks for your reply. After your post, and lots of research, I thinki I've put together a system I want. I am able to get a system from Dell at a discounted price, so I'm gonna go with them, but make changes to their staandard systems. Check out what I've come up with and tell me if...

    Studio

If you're gonna do your own mastering, you will probably waant some mastering software as well. A limiter might be good too. I would highly reccomemd getting a sonic maximizer for mastering as well. If you don't overuse it, your final outcome will really sound nice. They start at around...

    Roland VS-880 or 1680

Besides the tracks, it seems that the 1680's software updates seem to be better. It had a virtual mastering room which is pretty cool, and a few other things here and there, but I think it is mostly the extra tracks. If you think you will need them, and you got the $, the 1680 won't...

Im a starter and I have the same old question

Are the inputs on your soundcard RCA jacks, 1/8'' jacks, or 1/4'' jacks, and how many of them are there? If you want to record drums and don't have a kit/drummer or don't play them, you may want to invest in a drum machince, ...or even a keyboard if you think you would use it for stuff other...

    new computer

I don't think the Mac is dual processing, it just has a virtual PC in it. If anyone is curios, it is called PowerMac G3. You can check it out at www.apple.com The only reason I am considering this is because I can get one real cheep, but it won't be worth it if I'll need another comp. for...

    new computer

Dragon, that's a good point. Would that hold true even if I used the Mac side for recording or doesn't it make a difference? I really don't know a whole lot about computers so forgive my ignorence. Wasn't there a link a while ago to some company that sells computers specifically for...

    new computer

I'm about to purchase a new computer which I will use mainly for mastering at first, but then maybe some recording. I still can't decide between a Mac or PC. I'm considering one of those Apple G3's with a virtual pc. Any pro's or con's to either of these three ideas?? Thanks.

    reverb

When mixing down and adding reverb, in general, should I use the same type of reverb on all my tracks with different send levels, or does that really not matter. I'm mainly thinking in terms of guitar, keyboards and vocals.
