Yes it is! Such are the wonders of Macromedia. Let me know when you want me to start on yours!
Couldn't let the opportunity pass without comment.
Regards, Steve :)
Thanks, That's what I thought it must be. Given your explanation, you should hear some of the first recordings I did on my old Porta 02! More like a noise ceiling!
Thanks again, Steve :)
Hi,
I have what I hope is not too stupid a question. I have noticed several references to "noise floor" in the last few days. I understand what it is but how does one "hear" it as mentioned elsewhere? Is it an underlying hiss (cassette tape-like) or is it a form of distortion to the signal...
I'm curious how many tracks you are laying downa nd how long your song is? My reason in asking is that I have a 512mb card and have about 90-95 track minutes on it. I record in stereo and this nets me 45-47 recording minutes.
Assuming that you have a 256mb card, your numbers are half of that...
I just purchased a DMP3 through my local guitar shop (NOT Guitar Center) and twhile they didn't have it in stock, they offered to order it for me and charged me the same as the discounters WITHOUT shipping costs.
The point is that they indicated no trouble and no impending dicontinuation.
BTW...
Hi Vikki,
I'm no expert on mics but you can check on the web. There may be some information available that way. Also check Ebay. There is a section for mics. Use a search term like "antique" or "vintage". I would also be willing to bet that ther are sites (maybe a forum) dedicated to...
I couple of weeks ago, there was a thread (or four) about homebrew mics. Quite by accident, I discovered a long out of print (I think) book in the local library.
It is a history of the man who invented (what else) the microphone!!! No kidding. The man's name (and who we should all pay...
Cool. Thanks, I didn't know there was anything like this for audio. I've used them in ham radio but they operate at RF. Impedance matching is very common at high frequency. I would be interested to know what the losses are through the system. It may not matter with audio but no transformer...
Hi,
I think I've figured out how to post a link for the pictures of the completed preamp.

Hope these work.
The circuit boards were made by Velleman. They are a...
Please Note, I said "clean". Or at least I think I did. Either way, you're probably right. I'm used to working with applications that don't concern themselves with anything out of audible range. So, slap a few capacitors on the output and your off to the races! :D

PS The...
Richard,
Thanks for the longer explanation. I think you and I are talking about the same thing from 2 different angles. I guess that a simple transformer could work but I'm unfamiliar with the model you site. Do you, by chance, have a link so I could check it out?
I a sense, a preamp and a...
Hi,
I have a couple of pics to put up but I've never done it on this forum so I'm not sure of the procedure. Does the file actually upload or do I have to put it on a hosting site with the address?
Richard,
I understand what you are saying but I'm used to speaking in terms of voltages. If...
Richard,
Thanks for the help. I do know that some mini disc recorders have a mic input as well as a line input. Mine just has the line input. This means I need either an amplified mic or a preamp. Since I don't plan on doing a tremendous amount of recording with it, I thought the homebrew...
Richard,
It plugs right in, alright. It's just that nothing comes out, well...at least very little.
I'm well underway in building the pre-amp. I have the two mono pre-amps done and tested. I'm building the packaging right now. If you're interested, I can post a picture of the completed...
Richard, I tried that and got barely any signal. I basically had to scream into it to be heard. Maybe the Net md walkman has adjustable gain. I'll have to go looks.
Thanks for the heads up, Steve
Just to butress Marik's point, these DC to DC converters are (or at least use to be) available at Radio Shack. They take the form of a chip with generally three or four leads. If you are putting a good (read "no ripple") DC voltage on the input, you generally need no further filtering on the...
I went to the site I listed above and they were out of stock on both kits! I did, however find something else that I think will work even better. I've ordered 2 of the modules.

I'll let you know (if you're interested) in how this...
I found that last night very late after I posted my question. Ohmigod!! I only paid $149 for the recorder!
In my search, however, I came across a couple of other things that may be of interest to others who wish to do some live "micro" recordings...
Hi, I usually hang out at the mic forum but I have an unusual mic preamp question.
I purchased a Sony mini-disc player/recorder today. My intent was to recorder mp3's to listen as I run/jog...well...amble along anyway. I discovered when I read the instructions that there is a jack to record...
