Hey everybody!
So, I'm currently in the market for a 1" 16 track and was wondering what you guys thought about some of these models:
TASCAM MS-16
TASCAM 85-16(b)
TASCAM ATR-60
OTARI MX-70
I know this has been discussed before, but it seems like the advanced search function got way worse with...
Thanks for all the info guys! As many of you noted, I am very much aware of the differences of -10 vs. +4 - I wanted to know if anyone had any experience with a Ghost operating at -10dBv (or what happens when you convert part of the board/not the whole thing, etc.).
Also, I have a pretty...
Hey Guys... So I'm not exactly sure where this should go...
After the rather traumatic experience of purchasing a completely useless M-520 to go with my TSR-8, I settled on a Soundcraft Ghost 24 (not LE). I'm super happy with this mixer (although I really miss the M-312b I traded for the...
Awesome! I picked one up a couple of months ago that this guy said was busted. All I needed to do was replace the belts and it works great! That 246 looks super clean. Have a fun! These machines are sweet.
No, it worked relatively well. Completely powered up - almost every channel passed signal in the line, tape and XLR ins... all of the PGM outs worked too. There were about 3 channels that didn't pass signal, and the L output of the stereo out(s) didn't pass signal. Other than that, EVERYTHING...
Thanks for the info... I actually just got some really bad news from the technician who serviced this board. I won't go into to detail (I might over in Analog Only to make sure I never buy something untested again), but he said this M-520 has serious water damage - like, the whole bottom of the...
Thanks again. I have to make a bunch of cables for this mixer anyway, so that shouldn't be a problem - just wanted to know what I'm getting into first. Does this unit add any noise/coloration into the signal at all? I've never really used an outboard line mixer-type thing before so I'm not...
Okay, so I'm back. I see this ebay add that's up right now... Fostex Model 5030 8 Channel Line Amplifier 0200863 Clean See Photos | eBay
It looks like this is the older model Fostex 5030? Are the XLR's 3-pin hot? It looks like the newer model was able to switch between 2 or 3 pin hot XLRs...
Yeah, that's what I was thinking. I generally run the levels pretty hot anyway... it's ultimately going to tape anyway. Thanks again. Just made the purchase. Can't wait to go try it out!
Thanks so much for the info guys! That's exactly what I needed to know. I will keep my eyes open for one of those Fostex 5030's. That sounds like it will do the trick. Also, I kind of thought what I read about the nose issue was a little overstated...Thanks again.
Okay. That looks like it would work, but is there something that would convert it back to -10dbv? That seems like it only covers half of the process... ? I guess I would mostly be using a compressor at the end of a chain, but that would really cause volume problems if I can't get it back to...
I've searched for a while now, and I can't find the answer to this question (maybe I just didn't do it right). I have a TASCAM M-520 mixer, which is a -10dbv board. I've been saving some money, and I found a great deal on a UA 2-1176 and I really want to get it. However, I can't determine...
I really dislike this type of attitude. What kind of hip hop have you heard? I'm assuming you're talking about the commercial garbage that was made in the early 2000's (Master P, Ja Rule, etc.).
I would personally say the major labels ruined commercial music around this time by selling horrible...
I think the real question is what kind of gear did the producers use when thinking about hip-hop in the analog age... And that would be almost strictly hardware samplers - in an age before the Mashine, or whatever. On Illmatic, I know DJ Premier, Pete Rock, and Q-Tip had a lot to do with the...
Just a quick aside on tape... I am currently using RMGI SM911 with my TSR-8 and I have had no problems with shedding. When was this a problem with this tape? I bought the tape I am currently using about 2 months ago, and have probably used it for about 20-25 recording/playback hours - I've had...
Okay, so I'm back. I got the pinch roller and belt in the mail today... Put them both on (after a bit of anxiety over the removing the face plate, etc.), and I think it worked... ? I am so totally in my head right now. The belt didn't really look that worn, but it felt pretty stiff compared...
No, I am having my album mastered by a mastering engineer… I wouldn't make someone pay me to "master" something with only a TASCAM 32 and some budget outboard gear :). Maybe "mix" something for free, and I would give a pretty long disclaimer ;)... The TASCAM 32 is strictly for the mixes I will...
So, I'm checking it out right now... I didn't realize I had to take the front face plate off to get to the belt, so I am going to run the tests you guys suggested. I forgot, it does ff and rw perfectly. The reason I was a little wigged out was that I had it serviced about 4 months ago... The...
I am going to check these things out right now. I just bought a new pinch roller and new belt on ebay... If it isn't either of those, it won't hurt to have a spare! I will let you know what the deal is once I finish checking it out.
In response to fgonza2: It at least happened within one...
