Been working with Cubase, Hammerfall 9852, and ADAT. I love it except that I have no output for monitoring on the Hammerfall card.
Is there any way to make Cubase VST use multiple cards when one card is using the card-specific ASIO drivers? I have a Turtle Beach card I'd like to use for...
OK.
I finally got tired of the noise from the analog stage going from my ADAT to my PC for burning CDs, so I got the ADAT PCR from Alesis to directly digital copy my data.
Problem - I can't find a solution that will allow me to edit and mix 20-bit 48kHz data.
I don't want to dither until the...
Replied in email but wanted to post here.
On old homebuilt Pentium 233 MMX w/96 Mb memory, card works fine.
I'll be posting a thread trying to find out how to edit 20-bit 48kHz files, though ...
The guy I'm working on a project with now has a Gibson archtop with an aftermarket sealed pickup of some kind. I don't know why, but that sucker hisses like crazy unless we run a wire from the sheath of the pickup and attach it directly to him or to the tailpiece of the guitar.
Man, I ripped...
Oh, yeah - and if your room isn't really high quality you probably want to stay away from the hypercardiod pattern (that's the one with the "little tail" coming off of it) - what that means is that there is some pickup coming from the back of the mic. At best, you'll get room environment sound...
If you are using the single ART tube preamp, then I know it is very difficult to get things adjusted right without listening carefully to the output - the single LED isn't worth spit to tell you where you are in the amp curve - in other words, how much tube "quality" you are getting.
Ideally...
What preamp are you using? I've found that the C3000 by itself is nicer than, say, a dynamic or a small-diaphragm condenser, but it doesn't have a huge amount of warmth on its own. I use a tube amp to really add some extra qualities to the sound.
How close are you micing? I tend to mic fairly...
Where does the click show up?
Are you using both the gate and the compressor or just the compressor?
Do you see anything on your meters while recording that might match with when the click takes place? VU meters wouldn't show much but a peak meter should show a fairly obvious change.
Does it...
While waiting to get the money for one of the higher end ADAT digital cards, I've actually been using a high-quality cable to come from my mixer into the LINE IN on a Turtle Beach card. I mix down to that just the same as I would mix down to a tape deck or DAT. I've been pretty pleased with the...
I'm using the ART preamps (both dual and standalone) and I'm not finding them noisy at all.
I prefer the dual because it is a little easier to monitor - for some reason the standalones don't seem to light the clipping led very well.

Sonusman, it depends on what is on that partition. When you put everything back, it _should_ try to put it all in one chunk (a technical term), but depending on hidden files and virtual memory on that partition there may still be fragmenting problems.
I like using one of the utilities because I...
Are you sure you have the preamp at the same level for the dynamic as you do with the C3000? I've found that my preamp was at a much lower level when I used a dynamic mic.
In my case, the built-in pres on the mixing board created a vacuum when compared to the surrounding air. Since getting the...
I just ran into a bit of this over the weekend ...
try defragmenting your hard drive with defrag or Norton SpeedDisk or some other utility. If the drive has to seek for fragmented disk space then it is the same effect as having a slow rotation time.
I cleaned up my disk and defragmented - no...
Green Hornet, I agree with Juncher.
In the case you describe (one vocal recorded exactly the same to two tracks) what are you getting that you can't get with one? I can pan one track when mixing, turn up the volume (to the noise floor limit of course) to make it stronger, or whatever with one...
In my mind the C1000 is a great mic for guitar. I usually use two channels for acoustic guitar, one direct from a built-in pickup and one from the C1000. Depending on the sound I want I move the mic around (12th fret for mellow, bridge for nasty string noise, etc.) but I'm pretty consistently 6...
If you go with the Alesis Studio32 you really need some good mic preamps because the built-in pres are pretty noisy. That might make the Mackie a better value in the long run, dunno.

Looking for good headphones for the vocalist to use. Currently I am doing a lot of close micing for vocals, which is fine except that I get a certain amount of sound picked up from the phones. Short of having the vocalist clamp the ear cups hard against hisr head, is there a good set of phones...
Wow, I'll have to check this. I noticed a boatload of noise on mine when the trims/pre's are above about 85%, but I never tested to see if it only occurs when the phantom power is on.

I've got the Studio 32. I generally like its capabilities and flexibility, but there's a bit of low level crosstalk in the monitoring that's annoying (I don't think it bleeds into the busses, at least I haven't confirmed it yet) and the pre's get very noisy when turned up past about 85%.
It...
Well, yeah, if I was recording vocalists with professional mic technique I wouldn't have quite as much problem ... ;-)
Mic setup technique is more what I'm after. If I turn down the input part of the pre then I lose the "sweet spot" on the lower dynamics. What I'm trying to figure out is if...
