Well, figuring I'd be in ADAT land for a while yet, I broke down and got a snake. That $130 could have gone to a nice pre or something cool, but damn this thing is great. Being able to operate at +4 balanced really opened things up. I don't have to struggle to not clip the ADAT's converters, and...
Until I can afford a new power amp for my monitors I need to figure out a way to switch between my PA speakers and my event 20/20s. The amp is a 350 watt yahmaha.
Could I simmply patch the runs through a patchbay? or is this a Bad Thing (tm)?
Is Rat shack the answer? I don't want to spend...
intresting. You could just do something simple like fasten a regular mic stand and boom to the cieling. Would be limiting, but could be cheap! :D Just remove the base from the stand. Take a length of 2x4 and drill a hole the diameter of the stand, stick it through there and find some sort of nut...
heh.. that's MY AMP!
I got a scratch and dent one from MF for $235 a few years ago. Has been very reliable. It's clean enough to power my Event 20/20's with good results, it's primarily for my PA rig. I've even used it as a power amp for a bass rig. It's been good to me, along with my Yorkville...
If you can find some yorkville monitors they are great for the money. I have A pair of Y115's. I did a quick search and found some here http://www.musiciansbuy.com/yorkville_spkrcab_yseries.htm#Y112
They kick the hell out of the yahmahas and such in that price range. Just a little over $200 a...
I will agree with you for the most part on that chessrock. I find the Tube MP to be "pretty decent" as a mic pre for most things, except vocals ! I like it for my otherwise steril sounding Behri ECM8000 - only really tried that on hand percussion though.
The Tube MP is worth it's weight...
Right now I have a direct out going from a SVT head into an Apex 107 into a dbx 266xl for compression- defintly a colored sound going on, but it's sweet and round. :D
The ART tube MP isn't bad at all for DI on bass.
Do you have a gate rats? What I have done is to attatch a trigger the the head of the snare, and insert that into the sidechain of the gate. This is good cause you can gate agressivly but still be able to pick up ghost notes and softer hits.
If it's just the kick and tom rattling the snares...
Not to worry. Too much anyways. :D
I would assume that any damage that could ensue would be dependant on the mics/sources that you were using. Many times I have accidentaly plugged or unplugged mics with phantom power on, so far no damage.
Cabling gets really tricky when your tracking room and the control room are in different zip codes. :D
I'm tired of loading this box into the car. Hopefully soon, when I can throw enough money into it, all I'll have to do is remove a hard drive and stick it in my pocket. :)
or dig a tunnel. :D
+4 is professional level. in otherwords BALANCED.
-10 is consumer level. in otherwords unbalanced.
This is oversimplified, but it's a good hard and fast rule when you are wondering where to set the switch.
Sorry james argo, that's not the right information here. My circa 1995 JVC home stereo...
Seanmorse79 is refering to a setup where you can record and mix with out having to repatch anything. It's usefull if you got it, but it's not necessary. I can do the same thing by using the insert channels to/from my mackie to/from my ADAT. Saves on cable, saves on channels. :D
sae. I doubt you...
geeze i must be bored....
(3) SM-57
(2) MXL 603s
(1) Behringer ECM8000
(1) GT AM-11 (i don't see much about this mic, but i love it)
(1) ATM25
(1) ATM41-HE (sometimes my vocal mic of choice)
(1) Shure Beta 52
(1) CAD 22 = crap = talkback mic :D
I have 2 dbx 266xl's that I use. I bought one a long time ago and the other just fell into my rack. I don't like the way the gate work to much, but i have used them as an expander with some mild success. The unit does not do limiting very well. You can turn the ratio up to infinity, but when it...
Dead Poet- how are the pre amps on the staudio? How solid is the construction of the box? Maybe tricky questions to answer, I'm just looking to see if the st-audio stuff is "cheap" or if it's just "cheap" if you know what I mean. :)
I will often record direct from my Mesa DC-3's recording out. Sometimes straight to the recorder, sometimes an art tube MP inbetween. When ever I do this, I always have some sort of room mic going on, usually it's just leaving the drum overhead(s) powered up.
Reamping = excellent
