    Tears for You

    Wow, nice performance.

    more RAM or faster CPU

512KB of RAM is your bottleneck right there :) Seriously, I don't think upgrading your CPU or RAM will help. I would use ASIO drivers if you aren't already, and try to get your soundcard on its own IRQ (many times it shares with the graphics card). Also make sure your HDDs are defragged...

Old topic... Which hard drives are quietest these days?

I have a Barracuda IV 80GB. It's not completely quiet - I can still hear it accessing and spinning, but it's better than my old Maxtor 60GB. I got mine at dealsonic.com for a shade under $70 However, Hitachi and (I think) WD and Maxtor are now using fluid-bearing technology in their drives as...

M-Audio Buddy Preamp any good?? Good Sound Card but cheap?

    I'm seeing the DMP3 for $160 everywhere...where can I get one for $100?

    Monitoring with effects

Here are the specs of my setup: Biostar mini-PC with Via chipset Athlon XP1800+, 768MB PC2100, 80GB HDD, Audiophile 2496 It can handle all aspects of recording OK, except it chokes badly when I try to monitor live input with effects, particularly reverb. I could probably upgrade to a Barton...

Lavalier condenser mics (for acoustic guitar)

Thanks for that suggestion. Is there a particular name to that type of putty? I'm afraid of taking some finish off the guitar by using the wrong kind

Lavalier condenser mics (for acoustic guitar)

BTW, if anyone can think of a way to home-make one of these clips, I'd appreciate your suggestions. I'll probably end up taping the mic to the pickguard, the moron I am.

Lavalier condenser mics (for acoustic guitar)

I sort of bought one on a whim tonight, an Audio-Technica with an attached power supply. It powers the mic via battery or phantom power, has XLR out, and has a bass roll-off. I got it used for about 1/2 new price, thinking I scored a bargain, even though the guitar clip was missing. Well, I...

    Recording bass straight to board

Hi, I had been using a J-Station to record bass but I sold it recently after getting a V-Amp Pro (probably a mistake). I've been recording it direct into my DMP3 but was wondering how to 'tighten' it up in a mix. It sounds kind of boomy and indistinct. Should I spring for a Bass V-Amp or...

    Behringer v-amp pro

You need one that is 75 ohm (sometimes marked 'RG-59/U' on the cable. Usually RCA video cables are 75 ohm.

    Best Headphones for $100

Amazon.com has a promotion for the Sennheiser HD-280's for $70 with a $10 mail-in rebate, with free shipping. They are normally $100. For the price you can't beat them

Giving the V-Amp Pro a nod...

I got one a few weeks ago, but didn't have a chance to test it until Friday (when I got my electrics back from the shop). I think I got a used unit when I paid for a new one from MF. Reason: the box was a little beaten up, and twice taped. Also someone had changed all the factory presets and...

    Newb question...MIDI, DXi's

Thanks for that helpful info. It's a bummer I can't the track draw as I play, but I guess I'll learn to live with it. :)

    Studio Projects mics

Regarding the B1 mic clip: Anyone know if getting the SP shockmount fixes the problem with the plastic threads? My clip won't tighten on my stand either, and the other day the mic and clip fell off the stand (sent me a little shock to the heart) but luckily it seems to work OK, save for some...

    Newb question...MIDI, DXi's

Hi, I just 'upgraded' from using an audio-only multitracker (CEP) to Sonar 2.2. This is my first time using MIDI, I think. Basically I would like to add some synth sounds to my recordings (downloaded Triangle II). So I have my Evolution MK-249C connected, fire up Sonar, insert Triangle, and...

Neutrik v. Switchcraft relevant case for A. Hayatt controversey

Just curious...off-topic perhaps...but why didn't Neutrik patent their plug design? Wouldn't it provide more protection to them then arguing under a trademark or copyright theory? I was reading some opinions recently on the Mackie v. Behringer case some years back and Mackie claimed Behringer...

"Mad World". A Cover of a cover.

Sounds very good to me through headphones. I'm hearing some distortion on some parts of the piano track, but the piano tone itself sounds fitting to the song.

dmp3s -where the best place to buy

The GC's I checked all have the DMP3's (not discontinued) for $200. I think the blowout price was a regional sale or something. www.cdbm.com has it for $189 and free shipping on orders over $200. Maybe you could pricematch it to zZounds or Music123 (they'll usually beat it).

    Squier Telecaster Custom

Samick does have pretty good quality control. However, I have not seen a Made in Korea Squier in over 5 years, so I think they are going with a different company. The newer Squiers made in China and Indonesia are less consistent, but generally good.
