    Recording Guitar

How much could I get a descent one for? You don't think the Omnistudio's is descent? Thanks for the advice, and I welcome any more suggestions. How should I go about experimenting? I don't even have studio monitors. Should I just record it over and over, or put some sort of headphones on...

    Recording Guitar

I know there probably have been several posts similar to this, but I'm not very good at navigating through these topics. When I record my Ibanez through my Line 6 ax2, I usually put the mic (Shure SM57) 3 inches away, aimed towards the center of the grill, slanted downwards. No matter what I...

I agree with whoever said Musicman, you also can't go wrong with a nice P-bass.

500 bucks to spend on a bass and an amp. Suggest away.

Definitely go for a Fender Jazzbass (used) or some type of fender for versatility. They are very tweakable, and usually just sound good no matter what you do to them. I borrow my friend's for long periods of time, and it's an amazing bass, I believe around 600 bucks. If you can find something...

    thumb technique slap

definitely number 2 Try to curl your fingers (aside from your thumb) so that your hand looks like a thumbs up sign, then try to align your thumb near perpendicular to the strings, leaving the rest of the fingers someone near parallel to the strings. Try to slap on the edge of the fretboard...

If You Play Guitar Everyday, Please Read This!

Yeah I'm a classical pianist, and I'm majoring in piano performance. I'm starting to feel wrist pains when I play Bach (his hardest prelude and fugue), and I'm hoping it's normal, because I won't stop playing. My first audition is in a couple of weeks at Eastman School of Music so stopping...

    Your Favorite Amp!

for light music, anything by Carvin, Fender, and random custom amps (matchless, bogner, etc.). For heavy music, the peavey 5150, Marshall JCM 800 (old ones), Bogners, and pretty much Peaveys in general

    ? for metal guitar players

the Rat is great with solid state amps, not so much with tubes. The metalzone is great if you know how to tweak it correctly, and the megadistortion is great if you know how to tweak it correctly. If you can find an OLD zoom distortion, get that.

    Line 6 AX2

Thanks for the advice both of you, much appreciated. I don't know about scooping the mids though, it sometimes comes out awfully muddy.

    Line 6 AX2

I'm trying to get descent recorded sound out of it. Any tips on this? I use a shure sm57, and my guitar is an Ibanez S470 with a Bill Lawrence XL500 pickup in it (very high output, but not quite active). If anyone has any good heavy metal channels, please share your presets, and I'll do the...

    Your favorite instructional videos?

Paul Gilbert's instruction video is awsome. Frank Gambale's is also good. BUT the best ever is Shred Is Not Dead (get it with the dvd if you can, available at guitar center's) by Terry Sydek I studied guitar with this guy over the summer at the National Guitar Workshop, simply amazing, and...

    Schecter Guitars -- Opinions?

What I like a lot about Schecter's is that they aren't sloppy guitars. They are very solid, and the strings just ring. It's great for rock and roll, metal, etc., but not good for Blues, Jazz, etc. Anyway, I would recommend one for a budget buyer.
