what mics shoudl i use to mic my drums

You probably want at least 3 mics to mic a drum kit: 1 overhead, 1kick, 1 snare. Popular choices around here are: Overheads: Oktava MK012, MXL 603, Studio Projects B1 Snare: Shure Sm57, Sennheiser 441 Kick: Audio Technica ATM25, Shure Beta52, AKG d112 Do a search for drums in the microphone...

    Carvin guitars

Our bass player owns a ton of carvin gear: 2 basses, 2 amps, and a pa. The basses are great, but the electronics suck. The pres in the pa are pretty low quality & pick up a ton of RFI. His bass amp basically blew up (both amps & all speakers) for no reason whatsoever. The amp was not even 2...

    Basic Live setup............

I would definitely not recommend Carvin. We use a Carvin PA, and our bass player has 2 Carvin bass amps. One of them just up & blew itself up (power amp & speakers) for no reason. Carvin was no help. I'm not crazy about the sound quality of PA or amps. PA picks up tons of RFI. Great...

Anyone know what this is called & where I can get it?

setting up a new studio, what do i need!

I assume your compressor is going to want a line level signal, so you can't plug your mic or instrument directly into it & you have no channel inserts to patch it into. I may be wrong about this, try it before you take my word. You should maybe look into a small cheap mixer with channel...

    What mics would you use?

I recorded a bass cab this weekend & I said I'd report back so here goes: I used a 57 about 6 in off the grill and a 4033 about 18" off & down near the floor. The SPL crapped out the 57 in a few spots (the amp was LOUD!), but other than that worked well. The 4033 was too harsh up close, but...

setting up a new studio, what do i need!

Well, you have everything you need to start, I guess. Maybe you should spend that $200 on a small diaphragm condensor like a mxl 603 or oktava mk012, and a sm57 to give you some more mic options. You're going to find that all of your gear has its limitations, and as you figure out what these...

Are there any rules for drum room mics?

So was this just a dumbass question, or am I just impatient?:)

Are there any rules for drum room mics?

There seems to be tons of talk here about mic choice & placement for close drum mics & overheads, but less talk about room mics. I understand it is pretty common to use room mics for drums. Is this technique totally dependant on the room characteristics & the sound you're after, or are there...

Best Mic for screams/high SPL vocals?

I've never used one, but I've heard the Beyer m69 excels at this.

    What mics would you use?

Sub A- Looks like you really like that 4033! I just bought one-arrived today & I can't wait to try it out. My mic closet is more like a shoebox, but here goes: 1. Male vocals- mxl v67, sp b3 2. Female vocals- v67 3. Acoustic guitar- mxl603, b3 4. Guitar amp- sm57, b3 5. Guitar amp at...

    miking a bass cab

Ah! My bad. I understand now what you mean. But isn't it a pretty common thing to mix a DI and a miced signal for bass? How do most AE's deal with this phase issue? (By the way, is it miCed or miKed?)
