    Guitar Buying Rant

Ok, so I'm in the market for a new guitar in the $1000 range. I've looked around a lot and so far I'm most pleased with the Schecter C1-Plus. But here's what gets me, I have found about 20 guitars in this price range that would be good, if it weren't for the fact that they all have vibrato...

Should I patent this, or am I too late?

Dude... thats kickin! That's a wicked idea, im gonna do that to my guitars now. You could easily do that, but you'd need a 4 conductor cord (such as S-Video) if you only need one switch. I, however, would need 5 conductors to control my Real Tube.... thanks for the idea though. I'll figure...

overloading an audio input for too long, does it damage it?

If you keep overloading the input for too long you will probably eventually fry a transistor on the input stage or sumthing... but you will know because it will just stop working. It doesn't usually have gradually.

Stereo receiver instead of power amplifier?

I would have to agree with Wilkee. The physics involved in making a good loudspeaker are way more crucial than the electronics of an amplifier. Myself I would buy an integrated amp ONLY because they don't have as much RF running around as something with a tuning section. Mike

to the extent that surround is bullshit...

Roel: I just read an article today that says current DVD players will not play high-res DVD-A tracks.

to the extent that surround is bullshit...

Ok, many issues here. 1. Resolution is the total output, i used 4 volts as a common reference... i think cd's are actually 250mv output, but its not important.... anyway, its the total output divided by the number of 'steps'. 4/2^16 for cd and 4/2^24. my numbers should be correct. 2. My biggest...

to the extent that surround is bullshit...

DAC's A PCM DAC would not work in a SACD machine, and vice versa. Digital Audio is not Digital Audio is not Digital Audio.

to the extent that surround is bullshit...

Rocky Outcrop: my appologies, i really shouldn't have brought my opinion in about the artists. What i should have said is that most rock cd's have a tiny dynamic range, no where near what these formats are capable of. My appologies. Ok, how much difference does 8 bits make? 16 bit has a...

to the extent that surround is bullshit...

Barefoot et al.. I KNOW im gonna get bashed for this, but here goes... DVD-audio is just the exact same encoding as a CD, except it has dual layers, higher bit ratio, and a faster time-base (24Bit, 96KHz). It still has the same problem of needing all the digital processing and filtering that...

    Best Electric Guitar under $400

Tis true... Most people are attracted to Fender guitars for their sound, which is fine if you want to sound like everybody else. Yamaha guitars are waaaay better set up and they will stay that way. My Yamaha strat has been dropped i dunno how many times and it still stays in tune and the action...

How to make balanced cables with Neutrik?

solder As for the solder, I prefer .75mm diameter solder. It's not at all important really, but its likely smaller than the the stuff you get at home depot and easier to work with.

    Active vs. Passive Monitors

ACTIVE!!!! All speakers have freq response curves, correct? Amplifiers can be made to work with the freq. curves of the speakers and create more of a flat response than with a separate amp from who knows where. I have heard a pair of $2000 active 2-way speakers with a 6.5" driver and 1"...

    Headphones

Sony's I'm a big fan of Sony phones, mostly cuz I've got like 4 pairs of em. I have the MDR-V500 DJ (very close to the 700's), they're my main set of phones for listening to music. I used to use and older set of MDR-V7's for tracking because they had a little more high-end response. That...

Is there any way to impedance match 4ohm speakers with 6+ohm amplifier?

phase shifting is the problem though. Sonixx is right, AC circuits behave much differently than DC. Instead of having resistance, current, and voltage on the same plane like in DC, everything in AC has a vector, and with vectors come degrees (or radians) of phase shift. Unfortunately, I am...

    Should I?

Hey man, I'd pick Yamaha over fender any day. Mine plays so tight it's amazing for what I spent on it.

    Dvd

There is nothing even close to a standard for DVD players right now, as far as I know most, if not all, DVD players play video cd's. Mine does and its relatively old now. As for the reading of burnt Video Discs, you will probably need one that plays cd-r's. The only way to be sure is to burn a...
