You have to match the mic with the voice. But I've seldom heard anyone with any recording experience say the 3000B was much good for anything--and in my limited experience with it the 3000B is anything but dark.

You could substitute the Rane MS1-B for the DMP3. Also, you could substitute the True P-Solo ($499) and still come in under $1,000 (or right at it). Another option is an all-in-one box like the Meek 1Q, the Toft EC-1, or the ART Voice/Pro channel.

I agree with everything you have said regarding the DMP3. I think the DMP3/RNC combo will be very hard to beat, especially for acoustic guitar. But are you saying the DMP3, even with the high-gain 66db stage engaged, doesn't put out enough gain for dyncmic mics? I have not noticed that...

That is a very good deal if the guit suits you. Buffalo Bros (who have very good prices IMO) have two of these used on their website right now--both in exe condition. One for $2,100, the other for $2,250.

Sorry, I guess I don't understand his setup. Why wouldn't he just use two mics--each on it's own channel--and turn the vocal mic channel volume up? It doesn't make any sense to me why someone playing live would rather spend $400 on compression than a proper two-mic setup.
