MXL mics Yes the Mxl mic are pretty good mics, I have the V77 tube mic which I run through a dbx 386 or Joe Meek VC!Q and I get Great results.

Rap mics The 4040 is a good mic for rappers! but the Rode nt1000 is good so is the MXLV77 and the C-1 all which are in your price range.

tube mic Have you tried thx Mxl V77 tube mic? I use it alot on R&B singers and deep voice rappers, its pretty good for the money!!!
