    recommend a nylon/classical guitar??

I'd look for a used Guild Mark I or II on ebay made in the 60's or 70's. Outstanding guitars though the tuners should be replaced.

    Boss DR-880

Who knows, maybe she'll sell it to me cheap.

    Boss DR-880

Well she's ended up being fairly frustrated with it and the learning curve and is going with band-in-a-box to generate accompanyment for bass and drums. The DR 880 is a nice unit though and the best dedicated drum machine I've seen.

    Boss DR-880

Well what it seems to do is take pattern data from a midi file loaded in one at a time and play that but not the events within the tracks. And it seems to be useless for midi storage. It can store up to 100 songs that you create on it.....but that's not enough. I guess it could be a midi slave...

    Boss DR-880

Thanks. Yeah, it's the midi capabilities I'm curious about. Apparently she's been able to load a few in but it only plays a few bars and then loops. It could be something as midi assingments of track, channel, and program. I mean if it can store midi files then it should be able to play the drum...

    Boss DR-880

Anybody know anything about them? A sometimes playing partner of mine has one and I'm trying to get her to expand on some of the things it can do, in paticular, adding bass patterns and upload midi files.

mandolin = hard core practice !!!

It shouldn't be that hard to play, especially if you play some acoustic guitar. Still, proper set up at the nut is important as well as bridge height. Keep on pickin', they can be a lot of fun, and with logical tuning in fifths, they can make more sense than guitar when putting chords together.

    I want a white 12 string acoustic

I had a white Alvarez DY-88 for awhile...pretty good stage acoustic and you could get them as a DY-88-12.......abalone binding.....cool. They made 'em in black, white, and a few other colors.

    Oahu Lap Steel

http://www.tonecraftamprepair.com/html/oahu.html Looks like a cousin to yours. Anyway, a good amp shop would love to see it come in. You'll need capacitors for sure. Nice purchase.

    3 strings buzz, 3 don't? Acoustic guitar

Seems like the buzzing subject comes up every winter when humidity drops and people heat their homes. Only for the past four years or so have I consistantly humidified my acoustic instruments and non solid electrics and I guess it's due to my being more critical about setups and playability...

    3 strings buzz, 3 don't? Acoustic guitar

Sure sounds like humidity to me. You can usually tell by looking across the top at the bridge and/or running you hand across it. If it's totally flat or slightly concave, you've got an underhumidified guitar. Like Light says; keep it in its case with a humidifier. For the most part I use plastic...

    Help Needed!! Fender guitars...

Not a lot of wiggle room on price there, but it doesn't look like a bad deal. One thing you have to ask yourself is 'can I sell it without a loss if I don't like it', and in this case it looks like you could break even. As to Japanese strats, I've had my Contemporary Strat for 20 years now and...

    Taylors vs Martins

I'm with you on everything till the Taylor nylon. I bought an NS-62 and though beautifully made, was awful in so many respects. From poor intonation to unusable electronics.......had to take it back. This isn't to rag on Taylors, there are plenty that are great.....that one however was a dud.

    Taylors vs Martins

Maybe it's experience with those awful Fender acoustics from the 60's but except for tuners, I like all wood guitars to be all wood.

    Taylors vs Martins

I've always liked Martins, but more from an investment and later resale standpoint. There just hasn't been one I owned that I felt I had to keep. Over the years though several I've played have stood out, and all three were '41 D-18's....they were outstanding. Taylors on the other hand I've...

    Variaxe - They Do Work!!!

Sounds like you've got the Variax pegged for what they can do best...save a lot of time. I have a Variax 700 acoustic and with it I can get tracks down in a fraction of the time it would take to record conventionally. It's not often the end product but it allows me to work up songs quicker...

    Elixir Poll

I'm going more for D'Addario EXP's for coated strings over Elixer nanos but still use Elixers on the electrics. On acoustics, Elixer phospher bronze are still pretty good though and I'd rate 'em as a tossup between them and the EXP's. D'Addario is now making coated classical strings...what a...

    Nashville Tuning

I have a little '54 Maccaferri G-40 plastic archtop I've always had strung that way. It's extremely useful in recording.

Looking for Steel string acoustic with wide neck

Hard to find but Ovation made a steel stringed version (most are nylons) of their Country Artist guitars beginning in the mid '90's. Wide neck and very playable.
