Yes the OSA's have a trim..and a pad on the module..Im not taking inline pads but the pad on the unit itself..Its a 20db pad that should get you there. edit ..I don't know about the other pres you mentioned Read a little about them here http://www.atlasproaudio.com/osa2.html

I use to OSA's quite a bit{I like em alot}Dependent on the source and mics I use the pads{20 db button on the front of the mod.} on the pres and set to taste..Like others have said go direct to the "recorder"..I always have to use the pads on drums..Good luck they should sound/work very well for...

Get a small Mackie or something similar w/ the RNC..Perhaps "Tap" the inserts you will gain some clearity! Use some good mics and placement and you will get further along!..Save some cash IMNSHO ya ain't gonna jump that high sonicly with those choises and price range preampwise..Good luck :)

I agree ..But the bar has been raised in the past few years{4track cassetts to computers Bla Bla Bla}..If you are a artist you have to care somewhat about presention..And performers/musicans have slightly different expectaions than "recordist"/"engineers" :)And if you are wearing two hats ..well...

Getting up and listening from a distance..I've seen alots of guys do it..for me it helps to hear how a mix is jelling mainly for levels ect. Take some of the prossesing off the loop and see if the offending feq. is still there..if so then listen to see if you have a buildup due to other instr...

I don't see why it wouldn't help!Perhaps a small PA would do ya..As for the overheads, SM81's{I have 3} check out the GT44's they might work better for you and they are a little less expensive..Good luck

The 44's are nice mics..I have used them alot!Very nice on solo acoustic guitar,I have had some good luck on vocals with them to change up between lead and backing..Also I've used them on drum overheads and sometimes a room mic,used one on string bass too..For me they take the space that a U87...

For overheads the OSA A's work really well for me :)

right now Im diggin' a 66 Ampeg 12XT{50 watt portaflex w/2 12's} and a Les Paul Special with a Rat or Distorion+..Rock n Roll :) I got a bunch of other options at the studio..Man I need a gig :D
