    Wouldn't be caught without...

Anything Oktava, just get something they make. They are really unique and great sounding mics, nothing else has quite their vibe. I'm really surprised they aren't more popular. But I guess they aren't fancy heritage name brand so...

    Do you use outboard eq?

Interesting thanks for the responses. It would be cool to have a nice one to experiment with. Hopefully someone will chime in who has a view on that.

    Do you use outboard eq?

Just wondering if you guys have any high quality eqs where you can actually do some pretty extreme stuff without it sounding bad, and which eqs exactly are you using? I guess if you have a really good plugin that works well, let us know too. What kind of stuff do you use it for, any great...

To Pre or not to Pre???

Mackie vlz, I think would be a significant step up from Tascam. You're not going to get anything significantly great 2 channels for 500$. They're all kind of pretty good, and then there's a huge jump in price for the really high end great stuff. Oh yeah, EHX 12ay7 I can vouch for these. They...

    Get any new pedals lately?

I have a couple distortion pedals, which I think are important, because my amp doesn't have distortion unless you turn it up ridiculously loud. You need distortion for a lot of styles of rock music, so I'm glad to have those on hand. I've been reluctant to buy other pedals though, because it...

    Vocal Comping

You can often get a really good take the first take. You think wow, that sounds awesome, we got it in the first take. Then you listen to it, and it sounds good, but there are mistakes. You have to go back and do it again. Hey wait that could be a haiku A first take, sounds great Then you listen...

    Too Late to Learn?

Just a random thought. People say its never too late to learn. What if you only had a few hours left to live. Would you crack open a book, and start learning something new? Would you go to a music lesson?

    Vocal Comping

I like to split it up into sections. 1st verse, 1st chorus ect. Do a few on each section and pick the best one. I've learned its important to keep at it until you get it right, in terms of timing, giving full value to every note and stuff like that.

If You Had $1500 To Spend On Your Home Studio, How Would You Distribute The Money?

I would buy a nice cheap strat and get it customized. Both my electric guitars are crappy and unprofessional. I have no idea what I'd do with the leftover money.

    Art Pro Channel Preamp

You can get a EH 12ay7, but be warned that you can only use the xlr out to a balanced xlr input in a converter. Otherwise its incredibly noisy, but using xlr to xlr, its very quiet and sounds awesome. it does have a 1/4 inch output, but they should really just remove that and save money, its...

    I just buy the shoes.

Sm57 sounded absolutely horrible on my voice. Not much detail, and an enormous mid-eq boost right in the worst place possible. I've read that the older ones are much better. I'd be interested to try out a vintage 57 from the 70s. Get an mxlv67 or an mxl2003a.

    Vintech Dual 72

If you really want a 1073-ish sound go for that. I don't think you'll find a better deal on 2 channels of that particular preamp. You're getting it for $325 per preamp, no tax. That's a great deal!

What important things have you learned at HomeRecording.com ?

Something on compression. For singers with a very loud and violent attack at the beginning of phrases, you need a compressor that's FAST. Feel the need, the need for speed. You want to clamp down on the harsh transient right at the beginning to make phrase smoother. Doing a slow compression on...

    Get any new pedals lately?

I just picked up a danelectro "cool cat" heavy metal distortion pedal. This sounds way more awesome than I thought it would. (Btw we're talking def leppard/winger heavy metal, not modern heavy metal). What latest pedals have you guys been getting, or just wasting money on if thats the case? :D

    Vocal Mic

I would get the avantone without question. Robert Plant used one for his main vox on his latest album.

    Best Compressor Plugins

Thanks guys I'm definitely going to check out the kjaerhaus. I'll also check out the one called "the rocket" that seems to be pretty inexpensive. Cheers. The music store near my place is having a sale now and I could pick up a dbx 160x for $200. The problem is while I'm sure it sounds good, it...

Not all MXL V67g's are green?

A mic with rims? Actually I'm surprised they don't have robot mics that can move around. That would be pretty awesome. If you could program it to move to pickup certain things, like a singer who moves around or something.

Not all MXL V67g's are green?

I think there's a company called "violet microphones". Someone needs to come out with a mic with motorcycles and lightning bolts painted on it for heavy metal!

    Best Compressor Plugins

This is cool thanks for the tips. I have now just changed my plugin compressor desire to one that can function WITHOUT an ilok. I came back to my computer the other day, and somehow my ilok was slightly bent. Part of the plastic seemed to have broken. It still works, but I am very worried about...

    Best Compressor Plugins

Hello, I want to know what compressor plugins you guys are using and liking. I have only one that I really like, the Waves PYE. They have one other compressor I think that Black/Blue that is really good, but too expensive for me. Anyone find any diamonds in the rough?
