You're a victim of latency. The sound card in your computer is not designed to process sound at the accuracy you need...so, you're going to have to invest in an audio interface.

If you want something that will survive on-stage...what about a StealthPedal or StompIO?

A MIDI track in Cubase LE4 won't make any sound on its own. You'll have to assign it an output instrument (like HalionONE) in order to hear anything. HalionONE isn't great, but there are some passable sounding patches in there for strings and whatnot.

I think the kick needs a lot more attention, I can't really hear it in there at all. I like the guitar sound personally.

I'll add another vote for Yamaha. They're cheap, solid and sound good for what you pay. I'm a proponent of the BB series, but I'm not sure if they're still making them. I've had one for over 15 years and would buy it again if I had to go back in time and had more choices.
