mackie 1202vlz pro (someone pls help me!!!)

I'm not sure what all the model numbers you've listed mean as I'm not familiar with all that gear. Provide a list with some kind of description as to what all the pieces and parts are and I'd be happy to take a crack at figuring out a hook-up strategy. Alex

What to Put on the Floor

So I just read the post from Jonathan in the discussion on Don's studio saying that carpet & pad ontop of concrete sounds bad. Bummer. That's what I was planning on doing. Does anyone else have experience with other floor coverings for concrete? My construction budget is already way-tapped...

    Need help with acoustic panels

Fitz, The panels are good for highs and some mid-frequencies--from the posts above it looks like about a 500 Hz cutoff. A lot of rooms have problems with lower freqencies building up. To catch these, you need a resonator or trap. Alex

About the innerwall soundproofing/acoustics. John? Anyone?

Any kind of slanting is good. To insure against the development of standing waves, I've seen it posted that you need at least a 12 degree slope. Alex

    Need help with acoustic panels

Pete, As I understand it, the plastic will not affect the absorptive properties of the fiberglass. From other posts as well as the frequency absorption chart at the SAE site, it appears rockwool has roughly equivalent acoustical properties to fiberglass board. You can probably locate either...

    Need help with acoustic panels

Pete, Try this link to Dan Merril's panels: https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?threadid=42708&highlight=MDF+Panels This may be what you're looking for. I've also seen versions of this without the MDF trays--just the board wrapped in fabric. The type of fabric I don't think is...

New Studio in the works, help appreciated

Jef, You can add windows--major studios do it all the time between the live and control rooms. Check out John Sayers' site for information on how to build them. http://www.saecollege.de/reference_material/index.html Alex

The Unseen Headaches of Studio Building

Ginzoo, My wife's been tempted to pull the plug on me after a couple of tumbles off the step ladder (where'd you get that bruise?). Luckily I haven't lost conciousness so I've been able to keep it on the qt. Alex

have a 12 x24 space and want imput

Coupla' thoughts. As it's a rehearsal studio, depending on your neihbor-proximity--you may need good isolation. The room-in-a-room approach is good for this, but your low frequencies are the biggest problem. For these you need mass. I'm not sure about the mass-loading of the roofing material...

About the innerwall soundproofing/acoustics. John? Anyone?

Tomi, I'll give it crack, maybe others will pile in. John's inside-out wall construction is a good space saver. STC rating is shown on the charts on his site. This works best for room-inside-a-room construction, where you'r butting it up against an existing wall. That way you get the added...

    Question about Acoustic Insulation

Probably no downside, but possibly extra expense/work. You might consider using something like rockwool which would give both the acoustic and insulating properties in one shot. Alex

    Room ideas?

I've seen people get by with less--it all depends on what you want to do with it. Sound isolation shouldn't be a problem so you just need to worry about ventillation and acoustic treatment. Drum tracking might be difficult with the width you've got but anything else should be achievable. Alex

    Room Treatment

OK, I'm finally (finally, finally, finally...) nearing completion on my live rehearsal/recording/whatever room that I originally thought I might finish in March. Oh well, it's been fun. Thanks to all who have provided input up to this point. In any case I'm starting to consider wall...

    Termininology Questions

Michael, Far as I know, insulation qualities are comparable. You can check out their website which has more information: thermafiber.com They have a contact number there as well and should be able to hook you up with a local supplier. Alex

    Termininology Questions

Michael, Rockwool I believe performs better for sound isolation inside walls than fiberglass batt insulation. It's recommended by US Gypsum for sound attenuating construction. In the U.S., rock or mineral wool insulation is available from a company called Thermafiber. Check wholsale...

    "Floating" assembly sections

Not sure if you need this at this point but the US Gypsum website has an online construction handbook with a section on "Resilient Framing". They talk about the proper construction of all joints and have a few schematics. I've found it a good source. They also give details on two-ply...

    Let's Hear It

Thanks for the feedback. I'll run back through the setup on my Korg whent I get a chance but I'm pretty sure I didn't have any compression on the guitars or the overall mix. I threw some reverb on the vocals and applied a final EQ balancing effect on the whole thing but that was about it. The...

    Main Monitor Kit

Yep. I've got a pair of Roland passive DS90's that I run through a Samson servo amp. I'm no pro, so this set up serves me well for now. I haven't had a very good room to mix in up until now but I should be completing my studio in couple of weeks. I plan to do all my mixing through the...
